how does "plug & play" run and install the driver for the device?

    I've bought a 7 in 1 USB card reader/writer, but the windows 2000
Professional on my IBM Thinkpad T30 considers it as a SD/MMC
reader/writer and install the "USB mass storage device"(usbstor.sys)
under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers", "Generic SD USB reader
device"(disk.sys) under "Disk Drivers" and "Generic Volume" (no
driver) under "Storage Volumes". So only SD/MMC card reader is
    functional.

This card/reader DOES work well on some machine not only for SD/MMC,
    but also for CF,MS, etc...

I want to know how can I let the system know it is a multiple card
reader instead of SD/MMC card reader only.

    TIA
