How to add additional domain controller to work alone

Discussion in 'Active Directory' started by Dinarte Gouveia, May 31, 2007.

  1. Hello there. I have the following:
    - I have a domain with a single Windows SBS 2003 domain controller, with AD,
    FS, DNS, DHCP, and FSMO role;
We installed 6 more Windows SBS 2003 and we want to make them additional
domain controller (so far so good:) ). The problem is that this DC's will run
on another place's disconnected from the primary DC and separate from each
other with the AD of the primary DC authenticating users previously created.
We will have a VPN connection to all of them later this year. I want to know
if this is possible to do?!

    Thanks in advance

  3. Thanks for the answer so quickly. I think I've made a mistake telling SBS
2003 . We have Windows Server Standard 2003 installed on the servers.

    Thansk in advance

  4. Wait until you get a VPN connection before deploying the new DC's. If
two domain controllers don't talk to each other for... 60 days I
think... bad things happen when they suddenly begin chatting again.

You can ony add additional DCs with network connectivity, and as James refer
you need to be careful with the default Tombstonelifetime of your forest.

  6. Hello, thanks for the answer. But I have to deploy the DC's. :( Someone told
me that I can also create Child Domain's instead of Additional Domain
    Controller.

    Thanks in advance
