how to make virtual machine to behave like a physical one?

Discussion in 'Virtual PC' started by johnabraham101, Sep 22, 2005.

  1. i'm using winxp on host and redhat9 on guest. although, my host(physical pc)
is not connected to any network but I still want my guest machine to behave
    like a physical
machine. is there anyway to do so? actually i want my host and guest OS's to
have their own IP addresses when they are connected to the internet.

what if i install two NIC's on my physical computer such that NIC1 for host
and NIC2 for guest and then pluggin a wire into both the NIC's? will it be
    worked.

You can use two NICs, but it is not necessary to do that to get
individual IP addresses. If you set the virtual machine's NIC to the
physical NIC option, it will get its own IP address automatically from DHCP
(if you don't have a DHCP server you set them manually). The virtual machine
network service will intercept traffic for the vm and direct it to the vm's
IP stack. It never reaches the host's stack.
