    Hi,

Good Morning, Asif here. We have windows 2008 server with windows
exchange 2007 installed on 64 bit architecture, I am unable to view 'Roles' &
'Features' option on "Server Manager" and I am getting following error
message "unexpected error refreshing server manager: no signature was present
in the subject. (Exception from HRRESULT 0x800B0100)". So, as per instrustion
    mention on
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com...r/thread/ae1a7f09-2f50-4521-9bae-283631963283
I run 'Dcomcnfg.exe' tool to resolve my issue but no change.

So, I installed System Readiness update tool and through CBS 'checkSUR'
logs I found that KB950050 update is missing. I downloaded KB950050 update
and tried installing it, but its not installing. So I tried changing owner of
"c:\Windows\servicing\Packages" in order to install this update and I did
edited the ACLs over "Folder: Packages" under "c:\Windows\servicing" but this
didn't worked as I am unable to get the rights over the child objects in
"Folder: Packages". Please help I am unable ot install KB950050 on my server
manually & through WSUS server as is not showing any kind of update with
    KB950050 in it.

I will be eargerly waiting for your response.

If you need any other information please let me know.

    Thanks in Advance,

    Asif

  4. Hello Asif,
We need to replace those 11 files that are reported as missing.
    Download KB950050 as a stand-alone package
Create a new folder like KB950050 and extract the contents to that folder
    Something similar to *kb950050*.exe /extract.
Now open the cab file from that package and copy out the contents to that
    folder.
Create a new folder under %temp%\servicing\packages and place the missing
mum files and the associated cat files with the same name
Then rerun checksur, it should look to that temp folder and copy over the
    files that are missing.
Report back the output of the checksur.log file( only the current portion
    is needed)
If there are no files missing, Server Manager should work.
If checksur doesn't copy over the files the missing mum files and
associated cat files need to be copied to the \windows\servicing\packages
    folder
Be careful to only copy missing files, if other files are copied it can
    cause additional errors to occur.
    Thanks,
    Darrell Gorter[MSFT]

    Hi Darrell,

    1) As per your instruction I extracted the content of "*KB950090.msu" file
    from CMD console, I run command {expand -F:* KB950090.msu C:\KB950090} &
{expand -F:* "*KB950090*.cab" C:\KB950090} with the help of these two
commands I was able to extract all the content of "Update File: KB950090.msu"
    to "Folder: C:\KB950090".
    2) So I searched each and every 11 files shown above with "Extensions: .mum
and .cat" and copied the found (20) files to new "Folder:
%temp%\servicing\packages". (Here I was unable to find any (11th) file with
    name "Package_for_KB950050~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.0.1.9.mum" under
    "Folder: C:\KB950090" extracted folder)
    3) After this I run the "System Update Readyness Tool" again & then check
the status of "%windir%\logs\cbs\CheckSUR.log" it was still showing the same
    11 files missing.
    4) Finally, I copied the missing 10 .MSU with there .CAT files (Total 20
files) from "Folder: C:\KB950090" and pasted the copied files to
    "C:\windows\servicing\packages".
    5) I run the "System Update Readyness Tool" again after this I recheck the
"%windir%\logs\cbs\CheckSUR.log" the number of missing files came to 1 from
    11. Here only "Package_for_KB950050~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.0.1.9.mum" file
was showing missing so I retry finding this file under Extracted "Folder:
C:\KB950090" but could not find it. I restarted the SERVER computer & checked
the status of 'Roles' and 'Features' on "Server Manager" on windows 2008
server I was unable to access it still.
    5) As per "%windir%\logs\cbs\CheckSUR.log" following file is missings
    CBS MUM Missing 0x00000002
    servicing\packages\Package_for_KB950050~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.0.1.9.mum

  7. Hello A-S-I-F,
I think the missing mum is a renamed copy of the update.mum.
try copying over update.mum and renaming it.
then run checksur again to see if there are any errors.

    Thanks,

You need to take ownership of the folder so you can update permissions then
    copy the files.
When finished recommend reverting permissions and setting ownership back to
    NT SERVICE\TrustedInstaller
