I am very disappointed

    I have had my new Dell - Windows XP computer and while its got great
    security, it certainly screwed up. With all the software that is conflicting
    with each other, I have AOL and that is a big pain in the neck, I've also go
    McAfee which is a bigger pain. Seems Dell recommended McAfee, but I should
    have gone with Norton. Any how. I cannot get my windowupdate page to show
    the installation history. I keep getting this error message

    [Error number: 0x800B0111]

    Any suggestions?

    Hi,

    I would uninstall both AOL and McAfee, then go through the registry and
    delete any reference to AOL and McAfee. Make sure you back up the registry.
    Then I would not suggest going with Nortons, in the past they were good, but
    not anymore, it seems Symantec stuff bogs down the system just as bad as AOL
    software and McAfee. I would suggest either Avast or AVG. I use Avast home
    edition which is free and haven`t had any problems with it. You will hear
    from different people suggesting either AVG or Avast. I haven`t tried AVG
    at all, so I can`t say if its good or not, but they also have a free
    version.

    There are a few posts here on how to reset or repair IE, that should help
    fix your windows update problem.

  3. Yes.. you need to be more specific than just saying that AOL and McAfee
    screwed your system.. my own experience with AOL is not good, but McAfee
    works ok for me and the people that I support..

    Hackers, script kiddies and spammers have made it impossible for a person to
    run a computer 'out of the box' without taking precautions and having to
    learn how to combat the threats..

    Please re-post in this thread with more details..

    I've had this Dell computer for 2 months. I've installed all the software
    that it needed and have done all the updates with Windows, McAfee etc. This
    past week I noticed that I had a Yellow Shield on my task bar. There was
    nothing showing indicating what it was, just that it was at 28%. It took a
    long time to download. There was no box to check to pause etc. The next day
    I noticed that the box was this there and this time it was at 83%. As far
    as I know it did the Window update, but when ever I go the that web page I
    get the error, I doesn't enable the links to view the installation history;
    settings, or restore hidden updates. It also looks like the install
    updxates box is disabled. I get the We Sorry
    [Error number: 0x800B0111]
