I can't empty my deleted mails folder.

I despair. Until recently I was running OE on Windows 98 and I regularly had
problems with this same issue. I've gone onto Windows Mail with Vista and
everything seem to be fine for the first month deleting mails en masse until
now. I've got 299 items in my deleted folder and I can't empty it other than
by deleting one at a time.

    Is there a solution?

  2. Messages may be stuck in the Outbox when you use Windows Mail on a computer
    that is running Windows Vista
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941090
It also works on other folders.

Thanks. There's nothing showing in my outbox. Does that matter?
How do I know if I'm 32 or 64 bit please?

I've downloaded and run the hotfix but it hasn't made any difference. The
galling thing is that there is no error massage it just doesn't delete any
    mails.

Have you tried both the 32-bit version and the 64-bit version of
the hotfix? The one that isn't for your version of Vista will just
refuse to install, but the other one should install at least once.

My wife found the solution. She deleted over 100 mails one by one and then
found that the 'Empty all files From Deleted Items Folder' message worked. Is
it because there's a size limit in Windows Mail? A lot of my mails have
    attachments.

  7. I don't know of any size limit. Besides, WinMail store each message as a
    separate file.

  8. No, there is no size limit. But unless you enjoy jumping through these
hoops again, I suggest you upgrade to the less buggy Windows Live Mail:

I am too am having the same problem. All of a sudden it stopped working
about 1 week ago. Not sure why. I download the software above yesterday and
it still does not work. Is there another fix?

    Shea,
Please start a new thread detailing your exact problem.
Please tell us what you tried, "I download the software above yesterday" is
    not good enough.

  11. I don't know what "the software above" refers to.
Did you download and install Windows Live Mail?

try deleting the whole folder then close the program and when you reopen
there should be a new empty folder

As I wrote before, you seem to be replying to a rather old message,
one written before the current fix for such problems became available:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

The Vista SP1 update is an alternate fix, but takes longer to install.

Windows Mail is unlikely to allow you to delete any of its default
folders, such as Deleted Items, even if it allows you to delete folders
    you told it to add.

    are you stalking me???

    as I wrote before:
Oh well, it works for me and I am getting rid of the dreaded vista as soon as
possible so don't want any more "fixes" to add:)

Why should I want to? I'm just correcting instructions that don't
    work for everyone.

    OOPS!
didn't realize there were correction police here -
I guess by now since "I was answering old messages" that everyone must have
    your "fix" anyway.
