You missed the 80+ page report, 40 images part, there was some content there

    Mac is BSD.

Just out of curiosity - when's the last time you had a kernel upgrade.

I just saw an article in Business Week that Apple is now encroaching on the
    corporate world.

I imagine that - as soon as the iPhone has Exchange integration - there will
be little holding back the flood of Apple people on the corporate networks.

Um, ever heard of Window managers? KDE, Gnome - even Darwin - use the same
    concepts.

Of course, they don't run into the White Screen Of Death quite as often as
    us Vista users do...

    http://www.perfectreign.com/stuff/2007/20071129_vista_whitescreen.jpg

....I get shit like that on a daily basis. So far, I've been able to
replicate this on three different PCs - all high end.

are elements of BSD in OSX.

Well - Linux running a GUI isn't light on resources either. I wonder
what you mean by "using RAM efficiently". Isn't loading lots of system
related services into the RAM instead of keeping it idle for no reason
the very quintessence of "using RAM efficiently"? I wonder if you ever
checked the RAM usage with programs like Process Explorer when
resource-heavy foreground applications are running e.g. on Vista.
Suddenly lots of RAM can be found easily which is again basically the
same thing that Linux does. Many wannabe computer experts wrote articles
about Vista's heavy resource usage without getting in-depth into the
optimization mechanics, but well - these are the same experts that claim
that uninstalling old programs increases system performance, that
cleaning the registry is a good thing to do and that you need to clean
    your prefetch folder regularly. ;-)

Having free RAM all the time is like having a 1 TB HDD that's filled 10%...

Well, OK - I can fit SLAX on a 256 MB flash drive and my router runs
Linux with 32 MB flash memory but why exactly is smaller better if
you're missing features? Is that HDD-s are too expensive nowadays or
something? Or do you want to run the OS on a 10 year old computer. If
this is the case then yes, I agree, Windows Vista is not up to the task.
Well - choice isn't always good if you're not a computer expert. Isn't
the variety of Vista editions one thing the OS has been criticized for?
Now tell me how many Linux distros there are and how many options do you
have to make to have the system set up exactly as you want... From my
    experience with Kubuntu/Slackware/Fedora/Suse - A LOT.
And the others don't? I'm sure you could run MacOS X on a 10 year old
    computer, couldn't you? ;-)
Breaking backwards compatibility? Please, give me some examples.
So basically you're saying indirectly that Linux is 10x better than
Windows, yet fails to dominate? No, I think that it fails to dominate
because it is better for some applications and worse for others. The
claim that Linux is the holy grail of OS-es and the Windows line is
complete and utter crap is some kind of hippie nonsense.

    Keywords:

    "shilling"
"Micro$uck" (written with the obligatory "$")

Wow - another case for the kill-file. What a nice place the internet is.
I quite like like the Usenet though because it's SO easy to make people
disappear from it (at least from one's own perspective).

    Best regards,

    Lim-Dul

P.S. Oh, wait, I had you added to the killfile earlier when you said
something about taking a check from "M$". Sorry. ;-)

By the way - I'm in no way affiliated with Microsoft AND I can report
HUNDREDS of problems I encountered during my "adventure" with Windows
(on the other hand I can report hundreds of other problems I had with
various Linux distros as well). I could also name like dozen CONCRETE
flaws of Vista off the top of my head. I'm not "cheering for Microsoft",
I just dislike one-sided discussions where one side spreads unfounded
bullshit and jumps on some kind of bandwagon to be trendy and part of an
"elite community" (I don't know WHY exactly - you tell me). I always
think that it's best when a hypothetical "third party observer" can see
    both sides of the argument.
I know that I'd be far more popular if I entered the Microsoft-haters
circlejerk but I don't value popularity over staying true to facts.

It's true that there's no reason to switch from XP to Vista and expect
ultra-cool features BUT then there's no reason to buy XP over Vista if
you're getting yourself a new computer. I mean, c'mon, ANY new computer
you'll buy, even some Wal-Mart preassembled crap, will run Vista and as
long as its minimum requirements are met it runs pretty well.
I'm sorry, but could you elaborate on that with some hard data? I mean -
what exactly is slower? Truth be told I can't think of anything that
runs much faster and is more responsive on XP than on Vista - not even
games - and I still keep an XP machine around my home (because I didn't
want to buy a new OS for it - why would I?).

Also - what about the costs? I mean, Vista (e.g. in its Home Premium
edition) is pretty much the cheapest Windows OS there was - hence I'm
running an OS I actually bought for a change instead of some kind of
    company sponsored bundled license version.
Oh, C'MON. Vista is a new system and yes, it has a new interface.
Microsoft release the same crap for years - MS is bad - Microsoft
changes the interface to make it more intuitive etc. - MS is bad.
Switching to the new interface has indeed taken me like a week or so but
then I was switching from mostly Win2K, which was an even greater leap.
If you're proficient with Windows and computers in general than
switching to a different interface shouldn't take too long.
    *yawn*

That's why we are seeing e.g. the Linux market share on dektop computers
sky-rocketing into "above 1% territory". I always like these predictions
    - they remind me of Nostradamus. How many times did the world end by now
    according to him? ;-)

But yes, I agree that from a marketing perspective Vista isn't a very
good OS. However, I do not say that because I think the actual
"workings" of the system are bad - MS made several OTHER mistakes that
lead to Vista's unpopularity. Too many editions, promises of
revolutionary features (we got EVOlutionary features instead), a FAR too
long development time that made people used to XP and forgetting that
there will ever be another OS etc.
You're probably right. However, I still don't see MS'es market share
dropping and the last time I looked their revenue and stock value were
    doing quite well. ;-)
    Not really. ;-)

As usual a once quite OK discussion on the internet has inevitably
    devolved into a retard insult-marathon (I don't even know who's replying
to what and what we're talking about, especially since I had to *plonk*
several people) but I must say that I haven't laughed as hard as while
reading Onideus Mad Hatter's retorts (it doesn't matter if I think he's
right or wrong) for quite some time. ^^

I mean stuff like: "yer system is about as secure as an
electronics shop during a race riot"

"or maybe because yer great aunt Esther
died and left you her shity Mac in her will"

    That's like comedy gold. ^^

    Bring on the funnies. :-D

  11. Yes, I did. For one, I had to present the report, and it had to be done
in such as way that there would be an image and then a table describing
the image. Neither of them could be fit on a single page, yet they had
to stay together in a coherent way.

  12. How does one check? Last night I got the update to OSX 10.5.3
The hardware apple is building is very versatile. Some people I work
with don't much care for OSX and are used to windows XP so that's what
they boot into, others like both and still others (myself included)
barely use windows at all. Either way we can all read and/or work on
each other's files if we need to.
What exactly does exchange do? I mean, I have gotten along in the
working world for many years without ever using it or needing it, what
    am I missing?

  13. Yeah there are, but what is special about pcbsd as, say, compared to
win/lin/osx? or are you suggesting it as an alternative?

  14. Doubtful, then again, if you have a 10 year old computer and it was
still working, it must be working so well that there would be no need to
put vista on it and break it.
Results 1 - 10 of about 117,000 for vista breaks backwards
    compatibility. (0.15 seconds)
BeOS was neither windows nor linux. It was a new OS all on it's own.

  15. PC-BSD was put together to be a workstation or desktop
version of BSD rather than a server. It's very easy to
install, use and update. I had it on this Compaq box on
drive 1 along with Win2k on drive 0 and it seemed to be
faster than 2k with the same hardware. I want to load it
up again on another bigger drive with multiple partitions
and several 'nixes to compare it to. More fun for me and
    my bro.

    LOL!
Now use the same query with quotes here and there or substitute "breaks"
with "lack of", "lacks" etc. and you might get anything - from 2 results
to 440,000. Using the number of search result hits on Google with a
poorly constructed (or intentionally demagogical) query instead of
providing some hard examples or a nice article written by any expert
must be the poorest attempt at making a point I've ever seen. ;-)
    No kiddin'? ;-)

What I meant, and what you had clearly in mind, is that you used BeOS as
a metonymy for the "underdog OS", brilliant but underappreciated, which
everybody is all too eager to say about Linux as well.

    Ah, forgot that one.
So we both agree that it's no use to put Vista on a 10 year old computer
    - your point being? 0_o

I recall that I mentioned somewhere that any modern computer you're
buying NOW, even at WalMart, will be able to run Vista and you won't
experience any performance hit if you compare it to the same setup with
WinXP on it. That's the same myth that says that Win2K was faster than
WinXP (I stuck to Win2K for other reasons).
While there's no reason to upgrade to Vista if you have a fine working
machine, there's also no reason to invest into a deprecated OS like
WinXP if you're buying a new desktop computer.
Of course one might argue if it's sensible to invest in Windows at all
and not use e.g. Linux or FreeBSD or OpenSolaris etc. instead but if we
were to come to a consensus on this topic then the world would probably
    explode. ;-)
The only thing we will always end up with is the fact that over 90% of
dektop users still choose Windows over any other OS for whatever reasons
(Microsoft's monopoly, more software to choose from, stupidity,
corporate conspiracy - you choose) there might be.

    Best regards,

  19. Good CHRIST! I can NOT believe how incredibly fucking retarded you
are. I mean your stupidity is at such a monumental level, that
really, I gotta change the x-posts a little so everyone in ADG can see
this, see you, the BANE OF THEIR EXISTENCE. o_O

For those who want the Cliff's Notes version, this fuckin retard is
sendinding FORTY, FULL PAGE, images compressed as JPEGs with a total
size at around TEN MEGABYTES. These images are FOR PRINTING and the
retard thinks that if the printer guys aren't happy with the FORMAT he
can just take the EXISTING JPEGs and simply RESAVE THEM as say PNG
    files.

.....holy fucking CHRIST! Is this guy not the absolute stereotypical
FUCKUP that EVERY GRAPHIC AND PRINT DESINGER ON THE PLANET just
    absolutely fucking DESPISES!?

Oh, oh it gets better though. You wanna know how this terminal fuckin
IDIOT is SENDING these FORTY, FULL SIZE, TEN MEGABYTE (total), JPEGS
to be printed? The fuckin retard has got them embedded into a
    shitting POWER POINT file!

....oh...your...GAWD! *nods* A POWER POINT file! He's sending images
to be printed, as a fucking POWER POINT presentation! I mean, can
you, can you even imagine? I mean the last time I had a client send
me a fuckin POWER POINT file with content in it that needed printed
that was pretty much the point at which I realized that, that client
was WITHOUT ANY DOUBT the most absolute stupid fuckin computer user
since the retard who tried to use his CD-ROM drive as a coffee cup
holder...in fact, I think *HE IS* the guy who tried to use his CD-ROM
as a coffee cup holder! o_O

  20. You do realize that all a kill filter does is effectively shut
YOURSELF the **** up. Most people actually LIKE IT when people like
you use kill filters, because it means you won't ever be able to read
and, more importantly, can no longer REPLY to anything they post. The
people who see your point as being "wrong" will consider it a great
service to have you preventing yourself from ever being able to engage
in such a discussion, completely unable to counter anything because
you've setup a net.nanny like filter to babysit your Usenet experience
because you haven't the intelligence nor the comprehension needed to
simply ignore as you go, using YOUR OWN sense of determination.

    In other words:
    http://www.backwater-productions.net/_images/_Usenet/Usenet_Filters.jpg

    *nods*

Why do you think my .sig is so long and has a purposefully munged
delimiter? It's to try and get peeps like you frustrated to the point
where you'll simply enable a program to delete all my posts for you,
effectively rendering you unable to ever read and reply to my
    posts...and that's a GOOD THING.
