I see them --but-- they can't see me

I'm appealing to my server colleagues to help me troubleshoot a connectivity
    problem on the LAN...

There's three machines on the LAN each one a member of the workgroup. An
Administrator account with the same credentials is used on each machine: XP
Pro (XP1), XP Home (XP2), Vista Premium (VP1).

XP1 can connect to other machines and access their shares. Neither of the
other two machines can connect to XP1 yet the other two machines can connect
    to each other.

I've been trying to troubleshoot to no avail. This sounds like it may have
been a well known common problem but useful search terms have eluded me.
Your comments on how to troubleshoot this and perhaps resolve please?

I feel responsible in this context when I can take so freely of those giving
without the common courtesy of giving something back.

Glad to here that. The fact that regular posters like Bob comment on this
(to encourage others to do so) shows that you are unfortunately in the
    minority.
