IE 7 Beta 3 breaks HP Director software

The HP Director software (the HP's central panel for printing, scanning and
faxing)cannot be open when IE 7 Beta 3 is installed on the same machine,
i.e., nothing happens after I doubleclick its icon. This behavior was
reproduced on several PCs. This definitely was not an issue with IE 7 Beta 2.
Is there anything that can be done to fix this problem?

I agree and can validate. I even uninstalled and reinstalled all HP
software and HP director will not start.

I also had the problem and could not solve it. I went to HP live chat for
help and got little comfort, but they did explain that IE is the interface
for their P&I Director which is why the problem is unresolvable:

    Dear Jonathan ,

I am Ross from HP Chat Support Team following up on our recent
    interaction.

I understand you are unable to use the scanner software since you have
updated IE 7.0 Beta, I understand your concern and The IE 7.0 released
is still being in a testing phase may result in such issues, we have
also informed microsoft regardnig this issue, they may soon come up with
a new version resolving these conflicts.

We aplogize for the inconvenience caused.

If the issue persists please ge tback to us.We will be glad to assist
    you further.

My problem device is a scanner and I can scan by using the button on the
device, but the working software is much more cumbersome than the Director,
    so I want it back.

Johnathan, Thanks for the information. Appreciate it. I suppose now we
will wait for the bug to be fixed in IE7 B3.

HP Director will launch under IE B3 if you select it from the Start menu. It
will not launch however if you select if from the desktop. Easy workaround
    to get to the director.

I tried to launch the P & I Director from the start menu and cannot. Perhaps
the hp scanjet 2400c is different from whatever you have. I can launch the P
& I Gallery from the Start menu and the same thing launches if I use the scan
button on the scanner to initiate the scan.

I have removed beta 3 and restored IE 6. The HP P & I Director now works
again. So long until the final release of IE 7 which I trust will have fixed
this bug without breaking anything else.

HP Director will NOT launch from the Start Menu or the application file
itself on my system. If it does on yours, I think you are lucky.

Must be lucky then. The desktop launch won't work but the launch from start
menu works fine. Maybe another thing different is that I don't have IE as
the default browser. I use Firefox as the default browser until IE is
    stabilized.

If you still want Beta 2, you can find it here. Scroll down and click on
Free. You'll have to wait ???? seconds before you'll see a graphic with
letters in it. Type the letters in the box to download from the mirror site.

It broke my HP Director software as well. However, if you pull up the HP
photo imaging gallery, you can click on scanner and it will pull up the
    application, just not he director.

  14. You can scan images from there or into Paint via File>>From Scanner or
Camera, but I've found no good way to scan as 'Editable Text'. You can set
'Editable Text' to be the default when scanning from the 'Scan button', but
this has to be set from within the director software as does some of the
options AFAIK. I returned to b2 and am hoping between HP and MS this gets
    fixed before the final release.

I've been in contact with HP support about this problem.
HP confirms it pointing to the solution to "downgrade" to IE 6. However IE 7
Beta 2 seems to work fine with HP Director as earlier mentioned.
HP says that technicians are working with a patch to address this problem.

Tried the validator via windows update and shows a good copy.
Where do I get the trouble shooter and is it still possible to install IE7 B2?

That didn't change anything. I still get the unable to validate screen.
Is there anyway to install without going through the validation process?
    Any other ideas?
