I'm on my son's laptop now, but on my desktop I wasn't able to type in forms
or email but I COULD type in URL field. I thought it might be a setting in
Internet Options, but when I tried to view, I get message, "This operation
has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Contact
    system administrator.

This is a home PC running XP Home and I.E. 7.0

I've never had this happen and I would appreciate any help in resolving this
    ASAP....thank you in advance.

Use Regedit.exe and search for NoBrowserOptions and remove it.
It is most likely to be here (but not necessarily)
If you are unfamiliar with Regedit, then ensure you know how to
restore your Registry in case of error and it is a good idea to export
    any key before deleting.

Check the startup (Start-Run-MSCONFIG-Startup tab) for any unknown
items if it is reset on reboot.

If you use SpyBot's Immunize feature, then you can unlock in Tools-IE
    Tweaks-"Lock IE Control Panel"

Thanks for trying Alan. I've done everything you've suggested including
googling for more "fixes" but can't even locate "internet options" via
    start/control panel ?

When searching from both HKEYs, I get as far as Microsoft (after policies),
but no Internet Explorer...also searched for NoBrowserOptions, Restrictions
    to no avail.

I'm hoping that if I keep searching (my OCD acting up!) I'll find a way to
resolve this. Meanwhile, I'm using Firefox, but I'm not a fan...yet!

Unless the behavior's caused by restrictions put in place by some
    security/anti-spyware application you have installed...

Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log
    to an appropriate forum.

    Checking for/Help with Hijackware

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
( is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to,,,, or other appropriate forums for expert
    analysis, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

I'm presently using Firefox with no problems. What if i were to remove IE7
and then try a re-install in a couple of days ?

I'm presently using Firefox with no problems. What if i were to remove
You can disable IE7, you can uninstall IE7 and return to IE6, you can
reinstall IE6 or IE7: None of these will fix the problem.

Did you ever get to the bottom of this one? I have the exact same issue as
you do. XP SP@ and IE7. My last MSoft update happened on 16 June at about
3:00pm then at about 8:00pm I could not type in input boxes or access
tools>internet options. same as you. I rolled back the updates but no help.
i suspect a virus of some kind but McAfee did not pick it. MSoft cannot
seem to help and there does not seem to be a fix at the moment. So did you
    resolve it?

    Any help would be appreciated.

I'm experiencing the same and cannot find the solution, despite many tips
about the registry, Spybot, creating new admin-users. Nothing did work sofar.

Any help on this would be very welcome,
    Thanks, Robbert

Robert and Mike. I have fixed my issue!! I uninstalled IE7, rebooted and
then reinstalled IE7. all is now working. To uninstall, control
panel>>add/remove programs>> windows components>> scoll to the bootom and
highlight IE7 and remote it. You will have to reboot. This will roll you
back to IE6 and the problem goes away. then I used windows update to get IE7
back. it works. do not know why. Try it and let me know.

    Hi Trevor,
Thanks very much. Your tip solved my problem too.

I tried already something alike by removing and re-install IE with
"Add/Remove Windows Components". This didn't work.

After your tip, I removed Windows Internet Explorer 7 from "Currently
installed programs", then rebooted, and then re-installed IE 7 by Windows
Update, and it worked, Internet Options can be accessed!

    Thanks again, Robbert
