IE7 speed of switching between tabs

Discussion in 'Internet Explorer' started by Single source solutions, Jan 7, 2007.

  1. I am satisfied with IE7 with one exception; far too frequently when switching
between tabs the CPU usage pegs at 100% (IE7 process) and freezes the system
for 15 to 30 seconds. It happens about 1 in 4 switches, but it always
    recovers...eventually.

I temporarily downloaded Firefox, and set up the same tabbed websites and
the switching is ~instantaneous, ruling out a provider/site issue. The
content of the tabbed sites has no bearing, and there are no other processes
affecting the CPU during the hang. My system runs no TSRs and the start-up
has been expunged to bare essentials.

Can anyone provide troubleshooting direction to help find the source of
    these hangs ?

    Cheers

What if you right click the IE icon on the desktop and choose Start Without
    Add-ons?
Or go to Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet
    Explorer (No Add-ons).

  3. Duh, I should have known that. Thanks Frank the tab switching is instantanous
with add-ons disabled, now to root out the offending add on.

    Cheers
