IE7 suddenly turned against me.

I've been using IE7 since it came out. Just today, WinXP64 started failing
in several areas that are brand new to me ... never saw the problems before.

    Favorites: Click and nothing happens.
Ctrl-Click a link: A tab opens, displays "Connecting..." and does nothing.
Shift-Click a link: No new window launches. Nothing happens.

I'm writing this from firefox because I can't even access this discussion
    group from IE7.

The first tab works. Click a link there, and it opens up like IE6, in the
    same window.

Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions fail.

Tools / Internet Options / Advanced

Is empty. Click on "Restore advanced settings" and IE7 crashes.

Next step is to click "Reset..." ... major pains.
I have everything in IE7, but at least firefox runs.

    Firewall: Turned off. No difference.
    Virus Protection: CA

I ran Win Update, and two new IE7 fixes came in ... made no difference.

    Perhaps complete uninstall and re-install?

Resolved. Reset did not work. Download using firefox, then installed over
the top of the existing IE7 (without uninstalling). That worked. I'm not
sure if just doing re-install without the Reset (to dump addins) would have
    worked.
