IE8 font issue

I proofread books for Project Gutenberg using IE8 and the Courier font in
size 10 for these projects. (I also have the text size for all webpages at
Medium and the zoom at 150%.) In the last day, when I open a book page to
proof it, the font shows up very small, thin, and "choppy." I did a View
Source on one of the pages and the font and size showed up, as always,
Courier 10. So I'm wondering why it has suddenly changed its appearance on
the page. None of the other webpages has shown any problem, including the
    regular webpages for Project Gutenberg.

Any suggestions for getting these pages back to normal? Right now, the only
way I can read the text is to increase the zoom to 175%--and even then the
    type looks rough.

    Thank you,

    Jo-Anne
