Import/Recover messeages from back-up

Discussion in 'Windows Small Business Server' started by Ken McPherson, Feb 19, 2007.

  1. Hello,

I had to reinstall 2003SBS and have 3 days of messages in a back-up I need.
Is their a way I can import them from my recoverd back-up in a temp folder to
    my Outlook?

    Thanks,

    Ken

  2. Ken,

You can use the Exchange 2003 Recovery Storage Group (RSG) feature to do
this fairly easily. This article walks you through how to restore your
    backup to the RSG:

824126 How to use Recovery Storage Groups in Exchange Server 2003
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;824126

Once you've got the backup mounted, run the ExMerge utility
    (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=429163ec-dcdf-47dc
-96da-1c12d67327d5&displaylang=en) and use the steps outlined in the
"Selecting messages by date of delivery" section of Mailbox Merge Wizard
    (ExMerge).doc (included in the download).

Once you've extracted the files for your 3 dates, dismount the database,
delete the RSG, and mount your main store as you normally would. Run
Exmerge again to import the mail.

    HTH,
    Mark
