Incorrect "Album" associations and other ID3v2 tag issues

    Hello

Is anyone else seeing issues in WMP 11 where tracks are being incorrectley
    associated with duplicate albums?

For example, the album "Faceless" by Godsmack is in my collection and all
associated tracks appear in all other media players under this 1 album (such
as iTunes, MediaCenter etc.). For some reason, in WMP 11, the tracks are
split into three seperate listings of this album. Tracks 1-4 are associated
to 1 version of the album, track 5 to another and track 6-12 to yet another.

I have checked the tags and verified there are no differances. WMP 11 does
not even list any differances between the tracks so I am perplexed as to why
it is split into 3 seperate instances of the album.

Additionaly, the 3rd version of the album does not have the artwork
associated as the other two do.

I have also seen situations where all black is displayed for an album's
artwork when artwork does infact exist and is properly associated to the
    tracks via the ID3v2 tag.

I am a big fan of the new layout of WMP 11 but I am concerned about the tag
issues as I have a rather large collection (100 + GB) of LEGAL MP3's which I
devoted quit a bit of time into properly tagging.

    Thanks!
    Jason

I had a similar problem and what I found was that they files had different
composers listed for the tracks and WMP11 split them into two albums. I used
ID3-tagit to reset (and also view these tags) and they merged back into one
album after I removed and re-added.

    HTH,
    Tony.

  3. Seems to be the rule rather than the exception.
AFAICT (from statements made on this newsgroup) the track-grouping
criteria has changed from Album Title + Album Artist to also include
Year & Genre. This will cause problems for some parts of my collection
(and auto-playlists) because I have albums (both purchased and compiled)
where the Year and Genre are not identical for every track. For instance
decade collections (where each song has its year of release), or albums
with spoken-word tracks (which I exclude from playlists by avoiding
    tracks with certain genre-tags).
And if you reassociate them in v11, then the artwork is lost from ALL
    tracks.
I have 200GB+ of tracks ripped from my CD collection, but it seems that
the team have made a conscious decision to abandon users who put the
most work into their collections for a "mass audience".
