Hi all (although I suspect I'm the only one here),

WSUS on my Server W2K3 SP1 box stopped responding to the web browser, even
after a reboot so I decided to reinstall it.

The uninstall hung. Cancel and close wouldn't work so I terminated the
    process.

Then I could neither install ('A previous installation is in progress') nor
uninstall ('The product is not installed'). So I went through and manually
removedas much WSUS-related stuff on disk and in the registry as I could and
    rebooted again.

Now, the install gets quite a way through before rolling back and pointing
to a log file that containse the above error. For completeness, here is the
    full log:

What can I do to get WSUS installed again? Or does anyone have a list of
what I need to remove to get rid of WSUS completely so I can at least clean
    up the machine?

    Thanks in advance,

Ha! I'm not the only one here - my synch settings were off!

I thought I should add that, out of the registry stuff I killed, I didn't
dare touch anything related to MSDE as Veritas BackupExec uses it. (I know
virtually nothing about MSDE, although I'm ruinning SQL Server on another
machine). Presumably if I could get rid of the WSUS instance of MSDE I
could get to the next set of errors . I'll see what I can find on
t'internet but if anyone can advise I'd be obliged.

    Thanks,
    Mike

  3. 2006-06-15 08:51:56 Success CustomActions.Dll .Net framework path:
The installation of .NET Framework v2.0 is a known cause of this symptom.

Refer to the WSUS v2 README file for instructions on how to use
    aspnet_iisreg.exe to repair this situation.

Good pointer - thanks. .Net 2.0 has indeed been installed at some point in
the recent past. I'd also demoted the server from a DC shortly after my
aborted WSUS reinstall attempt, so ran netadm_regiis -i to reinstall .Net
1.1 and retried the installation - worked great. Had to delete a GUID key
from the registry because SQL Server Agent wouln't run (KB 823467), and so
    far, so good. Many thanks.
