install issue with ActiveX controls (deployed as signed CAB file)

    Hello Everyone,

    Is there a easy way to find or resolve why an ActiveX control package won't
    be downloaded or installed? It works for many of our customers (it's deployed
    as signed cab package) but sometimes we get issues which seem to get resolved
    with getting the windows update or making sure the user is part of
    "administrator" group. But sometimes they just can't figure out (there is no
    message etc. that tells them it failed and nothing in the event viewer).

    Is there some systemetic way to troubeshoot and resolve this for various IE
    versions?

    Is there a list of know issues/resolutions (Windows updates) that we can
    make sure is installed to avoid these issues?

  3. Your questiion isn't very clear, but I gather that you are having trouble
    with an ActiveX add-on.

    If you are trying to load the Flash Player 10 ActiveX into 64-bit IE, it
    won't go. Adobe (for reasons I do not know) does not support 64-bit Flash.

    If you were loading the Flash Player into a 32-bit environment, it would
    work fine. It works in 64-bit machines also, just not in the 64-bit version
    of IE. If you want to use (view) Flash content, you have to use the 32-bit
    version of IE.

  4. Sounds like you have a permissions issue. You could try diagnosing that
    with two ProcMon traces, one from an admin and one from a normal user and
    then comparing them for essential differences.


    One "known issue" IMO is that people's security packages can interfere in
    unexpected ways. So removing such products and going only with default
    security (e.g. Windows firewall, at least) might be considered a baseline
    first step for troubleshooting.
