The media center app says it can only run on media center edition.
INstall appeared to complete successfully, but after reboot, start
screen says MCE, but properties just say XP Pro

Any ideas? Is the a registry setting that needs to be set?

  2. Media Center Edition is not an upgrade to Windows XP. Doing an install
over an existing installation of XP can result in unexpected behaviour as
you are seeing. You should save your data and install to a clean partition.

    For informational purposes only

You need to use an app called Tweaknt. There are different version
but there is one that will allow you to change your os identificatio
    to media center
