Is WMP11 any good for Classical Music?

I still use WMP10 because I have a large library, of which about half is of
classical music. WMP10 says I have 14,564 items at 101.83 GB.

I confess to getting infuriated by the assumption that all music are "songs"
or "tunes" or even "tracks" when I want to organise my music into
"movements", "acts" or by "Opus No." and have specific places for
descriptions such as "allegro", "adagio" etc. I have spent a long time on my
WMP 10 library , and although not ideal, it is in a fair shape.

I read a lot of bad comments regarding WMP 11 on these boards aand resist
the "upgrade" dialogue box that periodically appears. Frankly, I am fearful
of upgrading to WMP 11 because of what it might do to my library.

But have there been improvements? Have their been updates that have
addressed the early complaints? And is it any good for lovers of classical

  2. Like you I have a large collection (45,000 songs) of which about 5,000 are
classical music pieces. Been using WMP 11 for about a year - since the Beta
came out. Bottom line, I've been more disappointed than pleased. As for your
Classical music issues, they're not really addressed with the new WMP 11

Here's a thumbnail of my observations about WMP 11....I've since loaded
RealPlayer which solves most of the issues that I have.

    * Better, more robust searching capabilities
    * I like that the album artwork is linked into the library more intuitively

    * You lose the ability to quickly see how many tracks/memory/total play time
you have selected in any particular screen. You'd think this would be a
    * Won't work easily with iPod. Not sure if this is a MSFT or Apple-driven
issue based on the periodic software upgrades from Apple
    * A huge pain - I'm just discovering a new music library is
getting indexed differently by WMP 11 depending on the machine I use. For
instance, my total colection is about 45K songs. My laptop version of WMP11
only indexes about 33K songs. My desktop indexes about 30K. I can still play
the remaining tracks, buyt have to load them manually song by song.

Stay with WMP10. WMP11 will not improve your life one iota.

This is very disappointing. Can anyone suggest an alternative? For instance,
if I keep my rock (etc) music in one folder, which WMP uses, and put my
classical music in another folder which WMP does not access, and use another
player for just classical. Which other player is best for classical music?
    Any ideas? Any experience?
