ISA 2004: Import of Ruleset (ISA 2000) failed after SBS SP1

Discussion in 'Windows Small Business Server' started by Michael Muhlack, Jul 20, 2005.

  1. Hello everyone,
yesterday I made the SP1 update most of the update was running without
    Problems.
At the End I made the ISA 2004 Update.
During the Update it terminated with an Error-Message that the ISA 2004
    could not be installed
and the Ruleset would be imported. The Message told me to start the Setup
    again and import the
Ruleset manually after Setup. I had only the Option "ok" and the Setup
    terminated. :(
I started the Setup again and then it worked.
But after trying to import the Ruleset ISA 2004 prompted me for a
    Password(!) for this Ruleset.
I did not typed any Password during export, because it exported the Set
    automatically!! :(
I tryed all Passwords I every used at the Server but none of this worked for
    me...

What can I do, to import those rules?
Is it possible to rebuild the Rules in the Ruleset in Addition to the
    existing Rules (only the different!)?

    Thanks for you help!!!

    Best regards,
    Michael Muhlack

    Hi Michael,

    Thank you for the post.

As for your scenario, I would like to suggest that you perform uninstall
the ISA 2004 and install it again using the command prompt. To do so:

Type the following syntax at the command prompt:

    Sbsisa2k4setup /IMPORTFILE "C:\importfile.xml"

Where "C:\importfile.xml" represents the name of the configuration file.
Make sure you use quotation marks around the name of the configuration file.

You can find Sbsisa2k4setup.exe on the Premium Technologies disc, in the
    ISASetup folder.

If the issue still persists, please help me collect the following
information for further troubleshooting. (My email address is
    )

    1. Please reproduce the issue and capture a screenshot and send it to me.

    2. Please send me the ISA 2004 Setup Log,

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business
    Server\Support\sbsisa2k4setuplog.txt

If you have any concern on this thread, I am glad to be of further
assistance. We look forward to hearing from you.

    Best regards,

  3. Hi Jerry,
    thank you for your reply!

When I do what you told me, will the Ruleset Additionally imported to the
Ruleset wich will be created by default for ISA 2004? Or will the
    original-Ruleset deleted?
    I only need two Rules:
    1. for including the Macinthoshs
    2. for DynDNS

Because of everything else seem to be running fine (there where only one
    other Problem with SQL SP4),
I´m not sure what would be the best way: reinstall or recover those
    rules...?!

Because of your Question of the screenshots:
I made two Screenshots of the Errors wich appeared during Setup. They are in
German but I made a little translation:

After this I decided to go further with the Installation of ISA 2004 and
during the Installation there was shown this Message:
    http://www.promocom.de/Problem_ISA.JPG
This Message tells that ISA Server 2004 could not be installed. I should
start the Assistant to try again. More help and support at
http://www.microsoft... ...if the Problem still exists. If this is an update
of ISA Server 2000, i should manually import the User Configuration after
Setup. The User Configuration was saved at c:\Programme...

....but finally I tryed to Install SQL 2000 Service Pack and ended up in
    this message:
    http://www.promocom.de/Problem_SQL.JPG
This Message tells that there isn´t installed SQL Server 2000 on this
Computer and the Setup will be terminated.
But there should be a SQL Server on it...

Maybe those are intresting for you!?

    Regards,
    Mike

    Hi Michael,

    Thanks for your update.

Actually, the default configuration for ISA in the SBS server is created by
running CEICW. And if you reinstall the ISA 2004 using the method as I
mentioned in the previous reply, the configuration will be deleted.
However, you can get them back by running the CEICW again.

As for your scenario, I would thought that the recover the settings would
    be a better idea.
