  2. fasttimes,

No, you cannot jump to specific minute of a recorded show with media Center
1.0 or 2004. What you can do is:
1.- Use the skip button on your remote to skip 30 secs at a time, until you
    reach the desired position, or
2.- use the FFWD button to advance until you see the time marker getting
closer to the desired target, then press play, and use the Skip and Repeat
    buttons for fine tuning.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

If you double click the file in Windows Explorer it will play in Windows
Media Player. There you can drag the file position pointer anywhere. If you
use full screen mode it won't be much different than MCE. Most of the remote
    even works.

That assumes that WMP has associated dvr-ms files to itself.

If you subsequently reinstalled (or installed) MCE, MCE would take back that
association (e.g. start with MCE 2002, install WMP <now it is associated
with WMP> then install MCE 2004 <now it is associated with MCE again>).
