The Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 2.0 (KB917283)
doesn't seem to install. When I download the update from Microsoft Update, it
installs correctly, but appears again when i check for new updates. What
could be wrong, will I need to re-install Microsoft .NET Framework v2.0?

  2. Mark,

Take a look at : Unified .NET Framework Troubleshooting Guide

I'm having problems installing it too. Mine didn't say it installed
correctly though. It says failed. I tried uninstalling .Net framework and
ran some registry cleaning software and rebooted. Then tried to reinstall
..Net Framework and now the same thing is happening with trying to install the
v 1.1 update. Anyone have any ideas?

I have the same problem: 5 critical updates, only .Net Framework Version 2.0
update (KB 917283) refuses to be installed. What to do?

The MS06-033 bulletin mentions XP SP2 but the actual articles refer to XP
SP1 only. This needs to be clarified Microsoft!

    "It says failed."

Same. I simply did a repair installation of .NET 2.0 (ran
    dotnetfx.exe->repair) and reapplied via MU->works.

If you have problems with the update "KB917283 - Security Update for
Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 2", take a look here:

    http://www.microsoft.com/communitie...microsoft.com/communities/newsg...p;cr=US&p=1

To more make it simply... Download the dotnetfx_cleanup_tool:
    http://astebner.sts.winisp.net/Tools/dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip and
    execute.

    PC restart.

Executing Windows update. All the protection software should be
deactivated, explains itself by himself. ;)

My PC is doing exactly the same thing as yours. I think though that the
issue is with the Download on teh MS Update site itself, since the download
size states "0 Bytes" and the down load time states "0 Minutes" I also have
my PC set to download automatic updates and now I have the Yellow Shield icon
in my notification tray all the time.

  11. I'm having problems as well. Mine doesn't install. It says
"The installation source for this product is not available. Verify
that the source exist, and that you can access it."
I've tried manualing applying the update as well, but I still
get the same error. I even tried uninstalling, and reinstalling .NET
Framework v2.0, but it still won't install the update.

  12. That's normal - it shows that the update is already downloaded, and
therefore there is nothing more to download for that update. It is waiting
    to be installed properly.
That is because the update is waiting to be installed.

the patch still refuses to install. Running XP Pro with Sp2

I am having this issue on both 2000 and 2003 Server. I am about to try the
..NET reinstall but the page listed as being helpful by Uwe Kraatz is not
    available.

Are there any pitfalls I should be looking out for? Or best practices
    someone can suggest?

Unfortunately, the link was broken. The right link here once again:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/articles/454956.aspx

For the other Users, if read this Thread ;-)
Search the "Clean-Up-Tool"... or here the Directdownload

    http://astebner.sts.winisp.net/Tools/dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip

After executing this Clean-Up-Tool, after a PC restart and twice
repeated call of "WindowsUpdate" .Net is installed newly. The second
WindowsUpdate installs the Patch for .Net 1.1 and 2.0.

You don't need the .Net repair function or deinstallation of .Net

Thanks, For the reply Robin. I still can't get the install to take. It
downloaded ok, The popup states it installed ok. And the WindowsUpdate.log
    shows it installed: "2006-07-12 16:32:07 1508 bdc AU #############

The Event Viewer Shows: "Installation Successful: Windows successfully
installed the following update: Security Update for Microsoft .NET
Framework, Version 2.0 (KB917283)." (I've done this about (4) times.)
And yet there is no KB917283.log file on my PC.

Also, when I go back to MS update and check for updates, KB917283 is there
    again waiting for me.
Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

  19. Download this:
    http://astebner.sts.winisp.net/Tools/dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip

Unzip it, and run the tool to clean .NET 2.0. Restart Windows. Run Windows
    Update again, see what happens.
