Legacy Phar Lap Applications in DOS

We're trying to run a legacy appliation that uses Phar Lap's 286 DOS
extender. The application will throw an exception 14 immediately on startup,
and dies with a register dump. Our application does not do this under either
    VMware for DOSbox.

We *HAVE* to use Virtual PC for Windows because of the three emulators we've
tested, it's the only one that emulates Serial I/O correctly!

We're using Ms-dos 6.22, under Virtual PC ver. 5.3.582.27, with no memory
management other than HIMEM.SYS. We get the same symptom under EMM386.EXE,
    and QEMM ver 7.

Also, we've found that we can't use VMADD386.EXE because it totally mucks up
QEMM 7 (we need that to allow us to use the DOS networking and *still* have
    enough memory for our application!).

Any suggestions would be appreciated . . .

    Jeff
