Local Intranet Zone and network drives

Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 seems to have changed the way that the "Local
Intranet Zone" is detected. Our network drives are no longer considered in
this zone. We get errors when opening VS projects, and when trying to run
unsigned code off the network (just affects development). Many of us store
everything on our network drives for safer development.

To fix this, we have to add file:\\xyz-abc-01 (that's the server name) to
the list of Intranet Zone sites (Internet Tools, Options, Security, Intranet,
    Sites, Advanced).

Do you have information on whether this is a bug or a "feature" of the new IE?

  2. My guess would be a security addition. Maybe some bug in the code not
    detecting the file servers...
