Local Intranet zone - How to quickly restore after IE7 upgrade?

Discussion in 'Internet Explorer' started by Mark A. Ziesemer, Oct 19, 2006.

  1. How do I get the Local Intranet zone back for home network use without
    running a domain?

This upgrade from IE7 not only affects the browser, but Windows Explorer as
well. I can no longer run any programs on \\laptop from \\desktop without
    all the additional restrictions.

The MSDN blog, "IEBlog: Dude, where's my intranet zone?...",
    http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2005/12/07/501075.aspx, gives some hints
about re-enabling this, but doesn't give any details. I've managed to
re-enable it by browsing to a local web server, which displayed the
Information bar prompting me to enable the Intranet zone. (What are the
criteria that it uses to determine this to display the prompt?)

What is a more straight-forward way of getting this back when desired? I
don't see a GUI option for it anywhere within IE's properties. I'd really
like to know where this is stored in the registry.

Surprisingly, there is nothing about this in the MS KB yet, or web or
    newsgroup searches, etc...
