Since Microsoft won't invite me to Beta Test Longhorn Beta 1, I just
purchased an MSDN Operating Systems Level Subscription (which should give me
access to it when it is released)! Shame on you Microsoft for not inviting
a previous Microsoft Windows Beta Tester (WINXPSP2 and WS2003SP1) and
forcing me to pay $700 U.S. Doller's just to get Longhorn Beta 1!

  2. Kevin,

What makes you think you have not been invited - all the invites have not
    gone out yet !!
Also being a tester for a couple OS service packs does not automatically
qualify you for future full OS release testing - there are many criteria
such as previous experience, quality and volume of feedback provided etc etc
    etc.

  3. Kevin;
    Did you apply?
I was not aware they notified those not selected, particularly at this early
date before the beta has started.

No one is forced by Microsoft or anyone else to pay anything.
Whatever is driving the need or desire for the Beta is forcing you.

I don't see Longhorn Tech. listed under Modify Your Info. on Beta Place so
    therefore I am Not Invited!

I would tend to think you are exaggerating a bit1 If you had applied
"millions of times" your fingers would have been worn to the bone and
you probably would not have the capability to continue crying about
Longhorn in a Windows x64 newsgroup. If you want to piss and moan about
Longhorn, then go to the Longhorn group and do your complaining there!

I am crying about not being allowed to Beta Test the X64 Edition of
Longhorn, so therefore I was not off topic. I am done complaining now that
I will hopefully have access to Longhorn Beta 1 through MSDN Subscriber
Downloads when it becomes available. I just had to let Mike know how angry
I was about the whole darn thing, however.

  9. Kevin,

As regards your anger - I have looked at your records and your testing of
our operating systems has been confined to SP1 for Server 2003.
The other Beta programs you have been on seem predominantly the MSN 9 and
Microsoft Update plus a couple of others.
It is quite possible that you profile does not meet with the initial
requirements for the first round of Beta 1 testers. Do bare in mind that we
add additional testers further into the Beta program and also again at the
Beta 2 stage, so you may be invited then.

That's not 100% true, because I remember Beta Testing Windows XP Service
Pack 2 (I got into that Beta through the Windows Update 5.0 Beta). Feel
free to send me an E-mail at my E-mail Address listed on Beta Place if you
want to discuss this further with me.

P.S. I also remember being involved in the Windows Security Update CD Beta
    Test as well.

    of it if necessary.

  19. What in the world makes you so sure you haven't been invited to beta test
Longhorn? You wouldn't have any way of knowing at this point. The beta isn't
out yet, and there is no way to tell if you're on the beta. Beyond that, from
what I know, you won't miss much even if you're not on beta 1 -- much of the
important stuff won't show until beta 2. And Beta 2 will be much more widely
    available.

You really need to lighten up a bit here, Kevin. There aren't any enemies
here, just dedicated and concerned individuals trying to help each other out.
Some from MS, some from other community sites, some just individual users,
and even a couple or 4 MVPs. But we're all in this together, working our way
through the early adopter issues that inevitably crop up. And if you're
having this much angst with the released version, you really, really don't
want to be on an early beta of a very new OS.
