  1. Hi all,

    I had two W2K3 R2 Standard Edition 64 bit ...

    The Main first server is FS01, it is a full five FSMO roles and it is a AD
    with DFS + DFS Replication some share folder and target to FS02 the second AD
    with DFS Server.....

    My big problems are one day the Main Server dead, so I need reinstall the
    Windows and the HDD are like the new one .... and I seize the FS02 second
    server to become the five FSMO role and make the GC from the dead FS01 server
    to FS02, mean that now the FS02 become the Main Server after seize and give
    it to be GC roles .... but the problem come here ....

    I seize the AD and clean up the meta by following step

    http://www.petri.co.il/seizing_fsmo_roles.htm
    and
    http://www.petri.co.il/delete_failed_dcs_from_ad.htm
    (Just clean up the metadata part, other step have not following)

    My user and workstation can using the FS02 for the DFS and working .....

    But I check the FS01 after reinstall Windows, and join the Domain and
    installed the DNS Server plus give it the File Server with REplication Role
    from the Management your server ...

    I open the DFS Management Interface on the FS01 Server, Oh, it is nothing
    here, lose all the inform that the record, it is like total new DFS what not
    setting it up ...

    But on FS02, I open the DFS Management Interface same like the FS01 I do, I
    can see the Namespaces Root, and the Folder, and the Folder Target that etc
    record, BUT, have some error here with RED "X" on some tab. I am lost the way
    how to fix it, I want the reinstall FS01 Server can save back the files where
    on the FS02 (Before the FS01 dead, the DFS Replication on the Target and
    Group Memeber setting is FS01 ---> FS02 (Mesh)) Now I am wonder why it will
    not auto copy the FS02's files to FS01 ...

    Here are my DFS Setting
    My setting of the DFS is

    Domain:
    company.local

    Namespace:
    EGR

    DFS Folder:
    Design Department

    DFS Folder Target (Design Department):
    Point to
    \\FS01\Design Department FS01
    \\FS02\Design Department FS02

    DFS Replication Setted copy the data from FS01 to FS02

    Share will be show like that on working environment
    \\company.local\EGR (Root Namespace)
    Under it can see
    \\company.local\EGR\Design Department

    Here are the error (RED "X") of the FS02 DFS Management Interface I see.....

    On FS02, I check the Namespaces tab, where the RED "X" of the DESIGN
    DEPARTMENT (Replication) and see the error, it show me
    <Unknow> (Design Department)
    The member
    CN=bdxxxxxxxx, CN=Topology, CN=company.local\\egr\\design
    department, CN=DFSR-GlobalSettings, CN=System, DC=company,DC=local does not
    refer to a valid computer object

    On FS02, I check the Replication tab, where the RED "X" of the MEMBERSHIP
    and see the error, it show me
    <Unknow> (Design Department)
    The member
    CN=bdxxxxxxxx, CN=Topology, CN=company.local\\egr\\design
    department, CN=DFSR-GlobalSettings, CN=System, DC=company,DC=local does not
    refer to a valid computer object

    On FS02, I check the Replication tab, where the RED "X" of the CONNECTIONs
    here have two RED "X", include the FS02 too ....

    On the first "X", it show ..
    <Unknown> to FS02
    The sending member object
    CN=bd9XXXXXXXXX, CN=Topology, CN=company.local\\egr\\design
    department, CN=DFSR-GlobalSetting, CN=System,DC=comapny,DC=local in Active
    Directory is invalid.

    On the second "X", it show
    FS02 to <Unknown> to FS02
    The sending member object
    CN=bd9XXXXXXXXX, CN=Topology, CN=company.local\\egr\\design
    department, CN=DFSR-GlobalSetting, CN=System,DC=comapny,DC=local in Active
    Directory is invalid.

    Hope here someone can help me.

    Actually, on my case, if it happened on your server, what the step by step
    you will do to make the two Server can sync again and the DFS Replication
    work again?

    Thank you of your time
