I have a weird problem on one of my sites where the mapped drives disapear.
The only solution I have come up with is to push out a shortcut that runs a
batch file to setup all the drives again if they do disapear.

It is weird in that sometimes they are fine, then reboot and they disapear.

I am using the /PERSISTENT switch and I have tried it without.

    Here is the script:

    net use /delete * /y
    net use x: \\server01\data$ /PERSISTENT:YES
    net use z: \\server01\documents$ /PERSISTENT:YES

Very simple, shouldn't cause any problems.

  2. Hi Hayden,

Thanks for posting in our newsgroup.

From your description, I know that mapped drives on your site disappear
after reboot. If I am off-base, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Please let me know the following to make the situation more clearly:

    1. Do all users or some of them have this issue?

    2. Are there any logon script on the configured for client side?

    3. Did you get any error messages when logging on?

    4. If the computer won't restart, the mapped drive works OK?

    5. How did you create the mapped drive?

    6. Does the mapped drive work when you run the script.

Please try the following to narrow down this issue:

Step 1: When you create a mapped network drive, did you select Reconnect at
    logon?

Step 2: It is possible that some third party applications are causing this
issue. To isolate the influence of additional applications, please boot
the problematic cliet into a "Clean Boot" environment to see whether this
    problem continues:

    1. Click Start, click Run, type "msconfig" (without the quotation marks) in
the Open box, and then click OK.

    2. In the Startup tab, click the "Disable All" button.

    3. In the Services tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" checkbox,
and then click the "Disable All" button.

    4. Click OK and restart your computer.

Step 3: Please temporary uninstall the Anti Virus software. Based my
experience, some Anti Virus software can cause mapped network problem:

For more information, please refer to:

Mapped network drives are disabled or disappear after installing Symantec
AntiVirus 10.0 or Symantec Client Security 3.0

    rev=&miniver=sav_ce_10

If the problem still exists, please help me collect the following
    information for further research:

    1. MPS Report

    1) Download MPS report tool from:
    http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd9
    15706/MPSRPT_SETUPPerf.EXE
    2) Run the MPSRPT_SETUPPerf.exe on the server box.
    3) Wait for 10~15 minutes.
    4) Open Windows explorer, navigate to
    %SYSTEMROOT%\MPSReports\Setup\Reports\cab\
    5) Send the .cab file to with subject:
    38703228-Mapped drives don't appear sometimes.

    2. Please export the following registry key before and after rebooting the
machine and I will have a comparing:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\NETWORK\<Drives>

I am looking forward to hear from you.

If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to let me know.

    Best regards,
