MCE acting like an Audiotron

I would like to play music from the MCE in the entertainment center without having to use the local MCE UI.

Today I do this with an Audiotron - from any PC in the house I can bring up the Audiotron intranet site which lists the songs on my MCE box. I pick a song, and the Audiotron caches and streams the music to the amp.

I've tried to remote desktop into the MCE to launch the music playback, but it tries to stream it to the local client.

Is there anyway to get MCE to start playing music without having to actually walk into the living room, turn on the monitor, and pick the song?

This will work, altho it's not a part of MCE:
    http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/products/data_mediamvp.html

It displays your Windows directories on the TV so you can select from
    there.

It's another piece of hardware & you gotta have a network connection near
the entertainment center, tho. Does video, too (mpeg-2, not dvr-ms
    native).

mm.. Let me try saying this another way. My MCE is downstairs hooked up to my big hurkin' amplifier. My fat butt is upstairs on another computer (Computer B). What I want to do is start music playing on the MCE box through the amp downstairs by pressing buttons on computer B.

Your suggestion still has me going downstairs to bring up the local ui (albeit on the TV instead of the monitor) of the MCE box.

Sorry. You gotta remember that the advice you get here is worth
approximately what you pay for it...

  5. There is a setting in the Remote Desktop client to "Leave sound at remote
computer" vs. the default "Bring sound to this computer"; this allows the
sound to play out of the MCE's speakers while you are connected remotely.

  6. You can do it with Real VNC www.realvnc.com. I don't think VNC will keep up
with the video stream but should work fine for what you need...and it's
    free!
