I have tried to reconfigure my MCE remote (have followed MCE instructions
using IR Blaster, IR Bug attached to set-top box etc) however, the remote
will not accept the changes. It will not change the channels on live tv, will
not record. The WMC remote will operate all functions except change the tv
channel. My box is a Bell Expressvu 2700. I have changed the reg a few times
    with no success. Any suggestions?

The computer is a Dell 9100

MD- I have a very similar problem. I have a new Dell XPS Gen 5 PC with WMC
o/s. After several hours on my own trying to set up the MCE and failing I
broke down and called Dells tech support. After 45 minutes of the most basic
trouble shooting, I asked to speak to a tech the next level up. As luck would
have, it I was disconnected from there India Support Group. I called back
last weekend and spent over 2 hours on the phone with the same support group.
This tech rep seemed to know more about my problem until he finally came to
understand that my Comcast cable box was digital (Motorola DCT6200). I tried
to make it clear at the very beginning but I guess it did not reregister with
him. During this 2 hour support call we exchanged e-mails. The tech rep said
he was in direct contact with a Microsoft tech rep and this guy said the MCE
remote control was NOT compatible with this (Motorola DCT6200) digital box. (
I have had the digital box fro over 14 months so it’s not new) I got the
famous “they are working on a solution (in an unknown time frame). The Dell
tech rep promised to keep me updated. It looks like technology is moving
faster than Microsoft can keep up. Analogy from digital TV set boxes… who
would have figured it would take off. But, that just my opinion… I have a
$3,800 paper weight sitting in the floor next to my 57 inch high definition
    television.

MD, You my have a compatibility issue. Good luck to us all.

How is the cable box attached to the MCE2005 machine?
You do NOT have the HDTV PVR version of the cable box do you?
Have you installed all the "offical" MCE2005 updates?
During MCE2005 setup and the cable box remote indentification, does the
MCE2005 PC change the channel successfully?
What type of tuner do you have?
    DVD Decoder installed?

I have the same cable box as you in a quad tuner (2 analog, 2 hdtv) setup
    and it works without fail.

Post a little more about your hardware / tv / setup and I am sure we can get
some use out of that $3500 paperweight!!

Buckeye Boy - Thank you for your positive offer to help.

Mike, Maybe some of this will help you. Thanks for letting me tag on.

No I do not have the HDTV PVR version of the Moto DCT6200.

Here are the specs on my Dell XPS Gen 5 PC:
Dual core Intel Pentium D 3.0GHz
1 GD DDR SDRAM (533MHz) RAM
1.3 Terabyte in 3 SATA HDs
Nvidia GeForce 6800 - 256 RAM graphics card.
Dual TV Tuner card with remote (This all I have on the tuner. I contact Dell
    for more info.)
    Power DVD decoding software

    Q. Have you installed all the "official" MCE2005 updates?
    A. Roll-up 1 for MCE 2005 is installed. This is all I know that is
    “officially†out.

    Q. During MCE2005 setup and the cable box remote identification, does the
MCE2005 PC change the channel successfully?
    A. No, and that’s where I’m stuck and this is where the second Dell Tech
rep said his Microsoft contact told him the 2 were incompatible.

    Q. How is the cable box attached to the MCE2005 machine?
    1. The Remote Sensor sits about 9 inches below the Moto DCT6200 STB. I see
a red light on the senor when I push the buttons on the MCE remote.
    2. The IF transmitter is connected into port 1 of the Remote Sensor. I have
switched it backed fore from for 2 to 1 but saw no change. The IR sensor is
located (stuck) to the right side of the red face on the DCT6200, next to the
    time display.
    3. The Remote Senor is “USBâ€ed into the PC.
    4. Even-though I have a dual TV card, at this time, I want to set up one TV
card. If we get it working, I’ll get the other DCT6200 box and set-up both t
    cards.
    5. The TV card is connected to the DCT6200 with an audio Y-cable and a
composite video to S-video adapter going into “AUD IN 1†and “VID IN 1†on
the TV card respectfully. The Comcast tech come out and told me where to
plug the cables into the STB. I get picture and sound during MCE set up so I
    assumed it is correct.
    6. During my last Dell Tech call they had me split a line off of the STB
line out and plug it into the CATV line.

    Thanks,

    Ish

  5. From another poster. This may be related to the Expressvu box

I finally got it workig (to a fashion) by using the regkey workaround
    suggested in:

    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=896480

I had to set the 'KeyInterval' value to 500 before it finally registered.
Of course, now the problem is that it takes a very long time to change
channels so it'll have to do until Microsoft get's the remote control problem
    figured out for good.

With regard to your STB's Silver or Black? LED display only or buttons and
    LED on the front?

Just to confirm your setup, that is 3 seperate hard drives with 3 seperate
dirve letters? MCE2005 has a hard time when you "span" hard drives.

Do you have to convert the RCA to S-video, or can you stay RCA?

When running the "automatic" setup, does it detect the STB signal?
Does it detect that you have dual tuners?

During the MCE2005 STB setup, can you change the channel on the STB itself
and see the picture change instead of using the remote? If not, change to
the other 'input" on the dual tuner card.

Thinking about your cable signal, how many times is it split from the
"master Line" into your home before it gets to the STB?? Do you run it
through any power line conditioners or surge suppression devices?

    --------------------------MY MCE2005 --------------------------------

Sorry for the delay, I've been under the weather. Thank you for your response.

    Q. With regard to your STB's Silver or Black? LED display only or buttons
    and LED on the front?
    A. STB is Silver. It has buttons and LED on the front.

    Q. Just to confirm your setup that is 3 separate hard drives with 3 separate
drive letters? MCE2005 has a hard time when you "span" hard drives.
    Q. There are 3 separate hard-drives with 3 C, D & E. I’ll use only 1 for the
    MCE.

    Q. Do you have to convert the RCA to S-video, or can you stay RCA?
    A. I used a “special†S-video adapter to ‘convert’ one end of the RCA jack
to plug the vid-cable into the TV card.

    Q. When running the "automatic" setup, does it detect the STB signal?
Does it detect that you have dual tuners?
    A. Yes, in automatic setup mode, MCE sees the dual tuners. If I do the
auto-setup I can not complete the MCE remote either. I also know that with
since I do not have the second cable box I can not complete the MCE set up.
As I mentioned before, I’ll get the second STB when the first connection is
    working.

    Q. During the MCE2005 STB setup, can you change the channel on the STB
ITSELF? And see the picture change instead of using the remote? If not,
change to the other 'input" on the dual tuner card.
    A. On the STB I can change the channel using the STB remote control and see
it change about 3 seconds later on the PC monitor. I changed the STB
connections to the second video connection on the card. There was not change
when I tried to re-set up MCE. As before, I did see the red LED blink in the
    IR Receiver.

    Q. Thinking about your cable signal, how many times is it split from the
"master Line" into your home before it gets to the STB?
    A. It is split twice by the Comcast rep.

    Q. Do you run it through any power line conditioners or surge suppression
    devices?
    A. No.

Instead of AUTO setup, do manual. Sounds like the setup program is getting
confused when it gets to working with the tuners.

Do you have two two plugs on the MCE2005 remote for plugging the IR
repeaters in? Change plugs. Do you have another IR bug you can try?

    Dear brainiacs,
I've tried everything. Yes, EVERYTHING. Is there any hope of my MCE2005
remote and motorola dct2500 working together?
    please help

Thank you for your very prompt response.

    Q. Instead of AUTO setup, do manual. Sounds like the setup program is
    getting
confused when it gets to working with the tuners.
    A. Every since I learned that the auto-set up require 2 STB and I currently
have 1 have have benn using the manually configuration.

    Q. Do you have two two plugs on the MCE2005 remote for plugging the IR
repeaters in? Change plugs. Do you have another IR bug you can try?
    A. I only use 1 IR bug. I do have 2. As you suggested I swicthed to the
seond 1 and unplugged the other. THis time it was worst. The IR Reciever did
NOT give me the reed LED that indicated that it senses the STB remote at all.
I switched ports on the IR Reciever just to be on the safe-side and still did
not get red LED from the IR Reciever. It appears the first IR 'bug' worked
    better.

Thanks for your time and suggestions . Unforunately it's still a very
    expensive paper weight.

Comcast offers no offical help. They want me to use their DVR.

OK.. I am confused, is this thread for two different people: Ish and MD? 1
with Express Vue and the other with a Moto (6200 or 2500) box. Are you both
    trying things listed here?

Instead of using cable coming from the STB, can you just use a COAX cable
coming out of the wall? Then rerun MCE2005 setup and see if things work.
You will not need the IR bug for changing the channels, but at least we can
see if it will work with one tuner.

Are you sure the IR Bug is in the correct place attached to the front of the
cable box? Confirm IR location by using a flashlight to shine on the STB and
look for the IR "receiver eye". Place bug in front of that....

Within Device Manager, can you disable 1 of the TV tuners?

Sorry you cannot get it working. Where are you located, maybe a poster on
the boards is in the same town as you and can visit in person.

    I am in central Ohio......

Sorry but I jumped in. Ish and I seem to be having the same problem except I
have a Motorola DCT2500. This thread was the only thing I could find that
was pertinent and I'm hoping someone may have more advice. Ultimately, I
think my CTB and MCE remote aren't compatible... my very own $3800
    paperweight. Yeah!

Buckeyeboy, I removed all but the coax cable from the TV card(s) this morning
before I left for work and ran the MCE set up ( I didn't have too much time).
I got a picture on the montior and was able to see the TV cahnge channel
    using the STB remote control.

I am as sure as I can be that the IR bug is in the correct position
according to the Dell Tech rep and using a flashlight. Oddly, the second IR
bug I tried did not seen to work at all.

I ran out of time this morning so I have to look at the Device Manager and
see if I can disable one of the TV tuners... I'll let you know.

Thank you for your help. Perhaps all that we have gone through will help
    others in their plite.

I live the western suburbs of Chicago.

Well I'm not sure if you have fixed this yet but I had the same problem.
Dell was no helped but it proved to be and assumption by me for one. Just so
you know the IR sensor that you are putting over the flashing light is not
where the ir sensor is. It is actually located on the left side of the clock
not even close to where the flashing is occuring its all the way to the left

    Thanks for your note.

No I have not fixed the issue. I've had some health issue that has put me
behind. I'll try moving the IR sensor. I knwo I have one of the 2 that is bad.

    Thanks,

Hi, Did either of you get this to work?. I have the same problem right now
with MCE remote and a Motorola DCT6200 STB. I have tried auto and manual
config, both IR blasters that I have and both outputs for them, moved the
blasters all over the face of the clock, you name it. Only thing I haven't
done is mess with the speeds. It is such a pain and time consuming to go
through the setup I haven't got around to that. If anyone at MS is listening,
a less brain dead interface with options you can modify to try and get the
darn thing to work would be much better. Thanks for any help!
