MDB File Will Not Open From Mapped Drive After IE7 Install

After IE7 was installed on one of my workstations...my user cannot open
Access '.MDB' files through mapped network drives or shortcuts. When the user
clicks on the .MDB file to open it nothing happens. This is an issue only
when another user has already opened the .MDB file. If the .MDB file has NOT
been opened by another user (there is no .LDB file) then the user with IE7
installed is able to open the .MDB file.

I removed IE7 in hopes it would solve the issue, but my user is still
    experiencing the problem.

I made sure the user has full permissions to the directories where the .MDB
    files reside.

I tried entering file:\\servername in the Intranet trusted sites under the
    IE6 settings, but no luck.

It still is unclear to me why removing IE7 didn't solve this issue. Maybe I
need to go through the registry and make sure all traces of IE7 were
    uninstalled?

I did find a workaround. The .MDB files will open if the user opens them
from within Access, but will not open if they click on the file in file
explorer. Also...some .MDB's will open if they are accessed via UNC....just
    not through mapped drives.

Is there a fix for this problem?
