I have my dvd's ripped to an external 500 gig drive connected via USB. Media
Center is set to watch for changes on this drive. I can see all of my movies
in the DVD Library on Media Center, but when I try to play them I get an
error saying it can't be played. When these movies are stored locally on my
C: drive, they play just fine. However, I need to store them on an external
    drive.
Any ideas as to what the problem may be???

Are you using My Movies from www.mymovies.name? If not, give it a try...

Yes. I'm using the latest version of My Movies. The program works great. I
see everything the way that I should in Media Center, but the movies won't
play. Yesterday they actually did play for a little while, then they started
failing again. I'm going to try to hook up the external drive with a sata
cable instead of the USB. Not sure if that will help but it's worth a shot.
I just don't know why it would work sometime and not others...

Might be USB drivers. I've heard of issues with some motherboards...I assume
you have the latest drivers for yours? If you do a straight copy to another
drive from that USB drive, do you see any issues?
