Are you sure your decoder hasn't expired (if you are using a trial version).
Note that there may be an Intervideo MP3 encoder that might be expired, that
    is not used for MCE.

I have the same issue with my media center running on xp media center edition.
What does that mean, decoder may have expired? How can I tell and how can I
    fix it?
    Thanks

The Decoder is not part of MCE itself and is not supplied by MS for MCE
systems. HP selected one and installed it on your origional system. I
suggest that you contact them again and specifically ask them how to
reinstall the Decoder on your system.
You could also download and install the 30 day free trial of the NVIDIA
Decoder from the NVIDIA Website, However, it will cost you $20 if you want
to use it after the 30 day trial.
