i have windows media 11 with vista ultimate, and at the end of every single
mp3 i have in my library the audio becomes choppy. it last for about 5 sec
and then the audio plays normal again. i know it is not the files because
they copy and play fine on portable music players etc. does anyone know how i
    can remedy this??

If you have a SigmaTel audio adapter, right click on speaker icon in
notification area, click Playback Devices, select Properties for your default
playback devices and uncheck audio enhancements

If you don't have a Sigma Tel audio adapter then it probably does not apply.

What audio adapter do you have?

Anyway you could try. Right click on the Speaker icon in the Notification Area
of the Taskbar, select Playback Devices, highlight Speakers or SPDIF (whichever
you are using). press the Properties button, on the Enhancement tab, deselect
    any enhancements.

  7. I've found a great solution and I want to share it.

    Use iTunes.

Sorry, but the Apple program works just like their systems ... no glitches,
    no skipping, no problems.

I have the same problem. Un ticking the enhancements didn’t work because i
didn’t have any ticked and itunes refuses to play some of my audio files. I
also cant redownload music player because it wont allow me.

My music skips for about 5 seconds around a minute before the end of a song.
To make things worse it does it on the best song ever. “Always and Foreverâ€.
This song needs to be played through to the very end!!!

Me too i want this thing to work.

Where are the experts when you need them?
It's taken me 2 hours to figure out how to post this message.

    Hello?????

I have the exact same problem on a Dell Inspiron 6400, but when I choose a
song to play, it takes quite a while to load up and shows the busy loading
ring. I just want it to work properly. I called Dell twice and they couldn't
fix it. What is wrong with my computer?

    You're most welcome.

Hopefully, soon Sigma Tel will update their driver, and this workaround will not
    be necessary.

Which sound card are you using?
If you turn off Windows Media Player's "Cross-fading" enhancement does that
    help at all?

This seems to be a problem with current Sigma Tel audio adapter drivers.

If you have a Sigma Tel audio adapter, right click on the Speaker icon in the
Notification Area of the Taskbar, select Playback Devices, highlight Speakers,
press Properties button, on the Enhancement tab, disable all enhancements

Use this workaround until Sigma Tel updates their drivers.

  15. Dear
I purchased a new Gateway with VISTA a few days ago for my mom who just
listens to music and plays games all day. (Her last computer, an emachine
actually melted the motherboard after only 3 years). So she listened to the
music and it was horrible! Was skipping like you say, almost like studdering
or like it becomes stuck! This is on ALL audio. For games, start up music,
cd music, everything! So I called Gateway and for hours, we updated the
Realtek driver, then reinstalled the sound card too,(not in that order) and
updated Windows as well. Nothing worked so I returned the comptuer for an
identical one thinking I got a lemon. Well this one had the same problem.
So now I tried other players. Downloaded Winamp and same thing, skipping,
distortion etc. But like you said mcdanme, it is not constant but every now
and then, enough to be horribly annoying! So then I returned this Gateway
computer, thinking it was a Gateway problem. Last night I brought home a
brand new acer with VISTA and it does the same thing! So by trial and error,
I'm not a genius but I have to conclude that this is VISTA'S problem!!! So I
have no resolution, just wanted to give input. Thanks for anyone who wants
to reply.....oh and yes the enhancements are not checked.

PS: I'm thinking I'll return this one and look for one with XP, used or
    something. This is stupid!!!!

I have the same problem. I recently purchased a Inspiron E1705 from Dell,
and just a few days later, started experiencing the media playback problem,
of the skipping at the end. Of course, playback enhancements are not checked.
I'm not sure how to fix this problem, other than to wait for a driver update.
Hopefully, this will be soon. Also, if you go to properties->update driver..
, it shows this option as disabled. I'm not sure if i'm the only one
    experienceing this problem.

Is your audio adapter manufacturer also Realtek?

    SigmaTel High Definition Audio

    Provider: Creative Technology Ltd.
    File Version: 1.0.0.71
Digital Signer: MS Windows Hardware Compatibility List

So this is a driver problem, not a Vista issue.

Also, there are no sigmaTel updates at this time. 26-7-07

More than likely if you purchased a Dell Inspiron E1705 or of the Inspiron
9400 family, between from January 07-current, you might also be experiencing
    the same problem.

Never trust the Update Driver Button in Device Manager.

Yes, it most definitely is a driver, not a Vista, issue.

You have to get Sigma Tel drivers from your computer manufacturer.

Go to Dell and download and install the drivers.

From what I have read, Dell has the latest Sigma Tel drivers.
