Microsoft'S Response to my Update failure

    Ok so we are all trying to access V5, and alot of people are having problems,
    I have a bunch of brand new laptops which just will not update, and one older
    one that has updated sucessfully. The only thing loaded on the new machines
    is the OS and the NIC drivers, I have tried adding the trusted sites, didn't
    work. Still getting a generic host error, & Error Code: 80072EFD

    I spent 2 hours on the phone with a "Microsoft Technical Rep" last night and
    he was very helpful, because he led me to believe I was not insane, because
    HE HAD NO IDEA HOW TO FIX IT EITHER ! I will gladly post the case number so
    that anyone in Australia can ring 132058 give the number and hassle them as
    well. Do you think I should?

    Has V5 update turned into a lucky dip? one works, one does not. Or has
    Microsoft made a slight error?

  2. As a matter of interest have you slip streamed the update into your original
    WINXP and tried to install SP2 as a 'new' installation? As you indicated
    the machines are new, that must be a possibility. Bit of a pain having to
    format the machines but should succeed.

    Trying to get some sort of answer I find myself on the phone with Microsoft
    again, 40 mins on, and no they still don't know how to fix it yet!

    I just love Microsoft ! don't you?

    I have _not_ installed sp2 as yet (except on my home computer), but none of
    my machines will work with the v5 update site.
    We have an ISA 2K server. I did get some help in an earlier thread
    (including loading something called BITS) - all to no avail.

    I will just sit tight for the moment (and maybe download an install sp2
    manually). It's obviously not working correctly, so I'm reluctant to
    reconfigure anything at this end just yet. Finally, a big thanks to people
    like yourself who are taking the time to make microsoft aware of the issues.
