Migrate 2003 domain to 2008 domain

  1. Hello Siddiqui,

You can not keep the same name with a new server install. When you decide
to do an inplace upgrade, you can keep it. Personel i don't like inplace
upgrades, i prefer a fresh install for new OS.

If you have more then one DC, hopefully you have, move all FSMO, if on that
DC and all data to another machine in the domain. Then decomission the DC
and remove it complete from the domain. Make sure the name is not listed
anywhere after removing, check AD UC, AD sites and services and DNS zones.

Now you can use the free name for the new DC. That's the only way to use
the name again ojn a fresh installed server.

    Best regards
