    Hello, (sorry for ma english)

We have a organisation with only SUS 1.0 servers.
Today, we want to migrate to WSUS3.

The old Upstream server will be removed (because the it is not our server).
So, i installed another server (in our LAN) with WSUS 3.0 (with SQL 2005).

    My problem :

The old server (SUS 1.0) and the new one (WSUS 3.0) are in differents LANs
and they cannot communicate between them. The network team neither can open
    ports or routes or NAT.

The (downstream) servers (SUS 1.0) can comunicate with the new Upstream
    server (WSUS 3.0).

    Questions :

    1) How can i migrate the approvals to the Upstream server ? (from the old
server to the new one, even if they are not in the same LAN and cannot
    communiate between them).

    2) If i only migrate the approvals on the downstream servers from SUS 1.0 to
WSUS 3.0, is it necessary also to migrate the approvals from the Old Upstream
server the the new one ? (the new Upstrealm server will synchronized from

I hope you unerstood my problem. If not, i can post an image realized with

  3. Luis... your *best* option, given the age of SUS 1.0 and the somewhat flaky
procedures for migrating, which require you to migrate =through= WSUS 2.0
using an incomplete procedure, is this:

    [1] Completely uninstall SUS 1.0.

[2] Install WSUS 3.0 on a clean machine.

[3] Configure, approve updates as needed.

Those two statements seem to contradict one another, but it doesn't really

SUS 1.0 can't talk to a WSUS 3.0 server anyways.

You cannot. You'd have to migrate them first to WSUS 2.0, and then migrate
them from WSUS 2.0 to WSUS 3.0, or do an upgrade-in-place.

Furthermore, if the downstream servers are going to be *replica* servers,
they *cannot* be migrated, they must be synchronized with the new WSUS 3.0
upstream servers. It is the only option.
