I have a Windows 2003 Domain (call it 'company.com'), and because of business
changes, need to change the domain to become company.newcompany.com. The
newcompany.com forest root domain does not exist, so I've got unlimited
flexibility there. I will be the administrator of the newcompany.com domain,
but I need to have the new root to put bring in things like
    'othercompany.newcompany.com' for business acquisitions.

I'm not sure what the best option is (which is why I'm asking), but I've got
    a rough couple of ideas:
-Create new forest, use ADMT to migrate company.com in as a child domain to

-Other? Can I just move the layout of my existing company.com domain in
some fashion to include the new forest root name?

  2. I think your only option is:

AFAIK the only "other" way to accomplish this is to create newcompany.com
then running dcpromo on the domain you want to become a child domain of
newcompany.com (loosing all user/domain info in the process) then run
dcpromo on the DC a second time and choose child domain during dcpromo. You
would then have to recreate your users
