    Hi

I have inherited a Win2k forest with DNS, Wins, Dhcp servers as well as data
servers holding huge amount of data.
I want to create a Win2003 forest along side and then migrate everything
over from the Win2000 forest and then scrap the Win2000 forest.
I am thinking of using the AD migration tool to tranfer the users, but the
data is a problem. There are user directories, and shared folders with
    different permissions
so I want to keep the same permissions but I would like to know if anyone
    has any ideas.

    Thanks

    Steve

  2. Steve-

There is a handy toolkit on Microsoft's download site
(download.microsoft.com) called the file server migration toolkit which will
    do exactly what you need!

  3. Hi Steve,

Thank you for posting here and thanks for Brian's reply.

Yes, you can try the File Server Migration Toolkit.

    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/upgrading/nt4/tooldocs/msfsc.mspx

The File Server Migration Toolkit provides the following benefits:

Simplifies the complex and error-prone migration process
Maintains UNC paths and eliminates broken shortcuts and links
Maintains security settings after the migration
Consolidates shared folders with the same names from different servers
Supports server clusters as source and target file servers
    Provides roll-back functionality
