    Hi All.

Hoping you can help me out here. I am currently in an environment which
has a couple of child domains that we are collapsing and migrating. One
of the child domains has a DFS root and shares configured on its two
domain controllers. Unfortunately, this is the only hardware available.
When the time comes to demote these DCs to member servers for migration,
anyone have any thoughts on what will happen with the DFS share? We are
thinking that we may just break the DFS, run the migration, and then
recreate it once the servers are migrated to the other domain.

    Thanks in advance.

I am not 100% sure on this, but DFS is a different service than AD, so
demoting the DC will not brake the DFS. That would be my logical response to
    it.
maybe one of the MVP can clarify it better. I am interested in the absolute
    answer myself :)
