  3. Hello,

    Thanks for your posting here.

We can not upgrade 32-Bit Windows NT to Microsoft Windows Server 2003,
    64-Bit Enterprise Edition.

If you are in a NT 4 domain, you can try to use ADMT tool to migrate the
resources from NT domain to Windows 2003 domain.

    Hello,

    Thanks for yours anwers.
This server don't work as Domain controler. This server only have an Oracle database.
Maybe, if I upgrade Windows NT 4.0 to Windows 2003 32 bits, and after that upgrade to 64 bits, this could be possible.
    Thanks dor all

    Hi Bob,

Thanks for all, but I have a new question.
If migrate Windows NT 4.0 to Windows 2003 64 bits it's not possible, can I upgrade Windows NT 4.0 to Windows 2003 32 bits and then upgrade to 64 bits?
May be if i pass first to Windows 2000?
In this server I only have an Orace Database.

    Thanks for all
    Regards

  6. Hello,

As I remember, NT 4.0 only runs on Intel x86 and Alpha CPUs. It cannot run
    on an Itanium machine.

Support for the Alpha CPU was dropped in Windows 2000. If you have a
64-bit Alpha machine, there is no upgrade path for him. NT 4.0 is the last
Operating System from Microsoft for that hardware.

If you have NT 4.0 installed on an Intel machine, it should be running some
kind of 32-bit processor, such as Pentium, Pentium III, Xeon etc. These
chips cannot run a 64-bit operating system.

If the NT 4.0 is on a AMD 64 bit machine (x86-extended). This can run both
32-bit and 64-bit operating systems. But the AMD 64 versions of Windows
    are still in Beta (see
    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/64bit/extended/default.mspx).

The only currently released version of 64 bit Windows 2003, is Windows
    2003 Server for Itanium.
    (see http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/64bit/default.mspx)

In addition, you would need to upgrade the Oracle software as well after
you use 64-bit system. As I know, 32-bit Oracle will not run at all, on an
    Itanium machine.

    Wish it helps.

  7. No, this is impossible. The Intel Itanium CPU is totally different to the
x86 family of CPUs. They are not compatible. Itanium machines cannot run
    32-bit Windows of any version.

This is not a limitation of Windows - an Itanium machine cannot run any
32-bit Unix, Linux or OS/2 operating system either. It's physically
    impossible.

The Itanium CPU does have a limited ability to run 32 bit software, once
the operating system is loaded. The Itamium has a hardware instruction
which makes it temporarily emulate a 32-bit IA-32 CPU. However, this
facility is very limited and it is extremely slow.
