Migration of domain-based DFS to R2 domain DFS

Discussion in 'File Systems' started by Rich Raffenetti, Nov 29, 2006.

  1. I have a simple domain-based DFS with no replication needs or issues.

I am about to install R2 domain DFS. I believe there is some migration
process that I need to perform yet I cannot find a description or
references. I did not find this described in this newsgroup. Perhaps it is
a simple process that occurs during the install.

If anyone has a reference I would be grateful. Thanks in advance.

  2. Hi Rich,

There is no migration process that is necessary. The only time a migration
is needed is when you are utilizing FRS replication and wish to move to
DFS-R replication. The only thing I could recommend that you do is install
the new DFS Management console which is available via Add/Remove Windows
Components. This new console gives you access to some of the new namespace
features in R2 such as target priorities and restructuring of the namespace
via the GUI (accomplished only via command line in the past).

    Hope this helps,

  3. All you need to do is install R2. Your existing namespace will be fine.
