Missing netlogon.dns and netlogon.dnb (repost)

Discussion in 'DNS Server' started by Jorge Andres Brugger, Aug 23, 2005.

  1. Hi, I´ve post this as part as a large message in another group. I think
mi problem is related to this subject, so give me a chance to post here.

When I run netdiag in one DC, is says it can open netlogon.dns for
reading (it´s true, because that file does´n exists in
c:\windows\system32\config). I´ve chequed permissions and they are right
(full access for system and admins accounts). I´ve read that restarting
netlogon and doing a ipconfig /registerdns should create those files,
but I haven's success doing it.
How can I fix this error?

    Thanks in advance!

  2. What errors are in the event log?

Make sure Dynamic DNS registration is enabled on the interface, I've not
heard of the Netlogon.dns and Netlogon.dnb records missing on a DC. Look
through this KB to make sure all the proper registrations are enabled.

    Use Outlook Express?... Get OE_Quotefix:
It will strip signature out and more
Keep a back up of your OE settings and folders
    with OEBackup:

  3. Kevin:

Thanks for answering. I was using the 32 bits Support Tools, so netdiag
give the errors when those arent there (now, netdiag, dnslint, dcdiag
and event log are not showing any errors at all). Anyway, I still doesnt
    have netlogon.dns, but seems that Windows 2003 x64 doesn't need it ...
or should I been concerned about that?

    Have a nice day.
