Mouse Hesitation

    After many years of proper operation my W98 system now
    hesitates for 5-10 seconds after a left or right mouse
    click before proceeding. This occurs even with no
    forground programs running or even with my internet
    connection off. I've tried to research the startup and
    CTL-ALT-DEL background list but am still having the
    problem. The mouse driver has not been changed, and the
    system is current with Microsoft Update.

    Can someone please help???

    have you tried a different mouse. might be some debris
    inside the switches.
