I had this "Windows Movie Maker has stop working" error message when I tried
to publish the video or add transitions between video clips. I saw the
solution from MS technical support page:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923122

I followed the instruction and removed all video filters, but there problem
    was still there...... :(

    Any idea??

I had the same problem and when I clicked close MS gave me the problem and
the solution. My problem was caused by lmpgd10.ax and lmpgspl.ax files. I
had to unregister these binary. If you are having a similar error message, I
can tell you how to unregister these.

I am having this problem currently in DVD Maker- I am unable to publish
movies to a DVD or play the story board in Movie Maker after i make the add
the clips to the story board, the error message is: Impgd10.ax. They suggest
unregistering the binary. How did you do this?

That's the Ligos MPEG D-10 filter (and should be filename 'lmpgd10.ax' - why
is this installed to your system? Does Ligos have an update available for
you for this file? What does their support say about this? Since I believe
this is a commercial 3rd party add-on, you'd likely first want to contact
them to see if they have a newer/working version available.

If not, either uninstalling Ligos, deregistering it ( regsvr32 /u
%path_to_ligo_file% ) or renaming the file should fix you up.

What about when it doesn't play at all, and you're getting NO error messages
of any kind? There weren't any filter issues, I've rebooted my computer
several times, and nothing helps. I can keep adding things to the timeline,
    but it just won't play.

I just bought this new computer a couple weeks ago and am starting to regret
it. I've tried to contact Windows directly about several issues that may be
Vista incompatibilities, but they won't even acknowlege my PID # so that I
can get online help. I call and their phone system is never-ending.

I just want to make videos which I used to do on an old computer with the
old Matrox capture card and Adobe Premiere 6.0 software. Adobe can't help me
either since the version I use is old and Vista is too new. I don't want to
dig my old computer out...I want this "sophisticated" media center to work!

    Can anyone help me?

I do not see any information about that issue. Are you sending crash
    reports to Microsoft?

What third party MPEG/MPEG2/codec software did you install to this system?
What steps do you take that lead to this crash? What file format is your
source file? What file format are you outputting to?

Thanks zachd. In terms of the crashing it only happenned once so far and I
believe a report was sent. The main issue is that I can no longer use movie
maker anyway since the preview function will not work when the clips/pictures
    are in the time line.
It is a new computer with windows vista and I have only installed Canon
Zoombrowser for my digital camera and logitech for a webcam as well as skype.
The short movies from my camera are saved as avi files and the pictures as
jpeg files. The computer came with a short term Corel Snapfire trial
subscription which is the default picture application. Is that helpful, do
    you need any further info?
I have also disabled all the video filters.
Do I have too many picture applications, should I uninstall zoombrowser?
    Many many thanks!

OK, so it's not crashing anymore - but the previews don't show up?
Do they show up for other file types, such as WMV files?

    ZoomBrowser should not affect this.

Do you have audio in the previews?
What video codec does it say those files use?
Sometimes in XP you could lose preview if the video card driver was having
display issues. I wouldn't think that would be a suspect on your system,
but it could be potentially relevant.

I had the same problem on a new computer with Vista Home Premium. Movie
Maker / DVD Maker crashing when I tried to preview a movie I was making
    with MPG files.
The fault module name in my error message was: Fault Module Name:
    lmpgspl.ax

I ran accross this message in one of the thousands of posts I searched:

"lmpgspl.ax is part of the Ligos codec which is known to cause problems. To
remove start an elevated command prompt and type the folowing commands. To
start an elevated command prompt find Command prompt in the Start Menu,
right click on it and pick Run as administrator from the popup menu.

    regsvr32 /u lmpgvd.ax
    regsvr32 /u lmpgspl.ax
    regsvr32 /u lmpgad.ax"

I did this and now all is perfectly fine.

Ma Giati's error is related to Fault Module Name: StackHash_8d13. So this
may be a totally different issue than codecs.

Are you sending crash reports to Microsoft? There's not fault bucket number
there, which makes diagnostics more difficult.

What exactly are you doing? What file formats are you encoding from, and
    what codecs do they use?

What exact file formats are you encoding from, and what exact codecs do they
    use?

If you go to the Problem Reports and Solutions center for these crashes, is
there a Fault Bucket Number present for that crash now? That's pretty
important, as your last crash didn't appear to have been reported/indexed.
