msn Messenger won't let me download msn 6.1 messenger

I even tried to uninstall it and it won't let me .
Also when i go download it i get error 1601 comes up on
also and won't download it. I contacted msn and they told
me also to go to add and remove programs but it won't let
me remove it. Help Frustraited here most of my friends
our on msn messenger and i want to talk . Can someone
help.

This usually happens if your Windows Installer is not working properly.

To correct, do the following --
If you're using Windows 2000 or XP, click Start, then Run, and type the following:
%systemroot%\system32\msiexec.exe /regserver
then click OK.

If you're using Windows 98 or ME, click Start, then Run, and type the following:
C:\Windows\System\msiexec.exe /regserver
then click OK.
(You will need to change the C:\ to whichever drive Windows is on).
Alternatively, you may need to reinstall the Windows Installer service from here:

After this, run the install again.
