Yesterday I go buy WRT54G for home usage

I installed the router and MSN messenger6.1 inside my windows XP pro; but
now problems happens, I cannot doing voice / video conference with my
friends, will there be any setting wrong? My configuration showing below:

    Client PC:
    - I have 3 PC inside my home, 1 be server, 1 for me and 1 for my father.
    - Client PC using windows XP pro, all applied latest patches and SP1
    - All PC never install any firewall software, only installed norton
    antivirus 2004 only.
    - All PC setting with fixed IP, gateway, DNS
    - There are 2 PC will use MSN messenger6.1.

    Router:
    IP - 192.168.1.1
DHCP - disable (all client PC using fixed IP)
Wireless - disable (still not enable yet , before all wired configuration
    done)
Port following: for web, ftp, VNC, terminal service (all point to my server)
    UPnP - disable
    DMZ - disable
Wan connection: using PPPoe service (I have an ADSL modem for ISP
    connection)
    -----------------------------------------------------------------
Will there be reasons of Messenger not working because of UPnP function not
    enable?

But there is a problem after I enable the UPnP within router, there shows an
icon "Internet connection gateway" within "Network Connections" and always
showing disable ... when i checking the "internet connection gateway" 's
properties --> setting , there have some MSN messenger's setting inside
    there too.

Problem is after these things happens, my MSN messenger become hard to sign
in, sometimes cannot sign in with error message too... after have some try,
messenger signed in but video conference function still not working ... T_T

Please give me any suggestion or comments if there are anythings wrong
setting or please point me out, because I want using the webcam with my
oversea's parents, thank you very very much.

  2. Greetings Lonwon,

The WRT54G works great with Messenger, but you will need to engage UPnP in the router in
order to use voice/video conversations. After doing so in the router configuration, be sure
to restart Messenger (right-click on the Messenger icon in the notification area/system tray,
and click Exit, then restart it from the start menu) on all the PCs you wish to use
    voice/video on.

Also, if you haven't done already, be sure you have the latest firmware release for the
    WRT54G:

    Hi Lowon and Jonathan,

I have a WRT54G with lastest version of firmware (2.02.7), uPnP does not
work with Win XP SP1 in my configuration (when trying to enable Internet
Gateway, the WRT54G's configuration is changed from PPPoE to Dyn DHCP).
After a lot of research, it seems that an old firmware version of WTR54G
worked (previous to 1.42.x) and I did not take ant risk to test that. The
only solution for MSN voice (for me) is the solution described by MS at

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324214

    by forwarding the ports.

So if you have any suggestion or other ideas, I'll really very happy to hear
    it.

    Thank you!

    Stephane.
