  2. Greetings,

    The APISlice.dll library mentioned in the crash here is not part of Messenger. No doubt it's
    hooking in and causing this problem.

    Unfortunately I couldn't come up with who owns the library, so just do a search on your drive
    for the file, right-click on it, choose Properties and then click the Details tab. Hopefully
    they identify themselves (or perhaps the folder the file is in), and you can just
    uninstall/disable the software in question.

    FIXED - MSN won't work on my Vista Home Premium

    FIXED - MSN wont work on my Vista Home Premium.

    I too had the same problem not being able to access MSN Messenger (last two versions) on my Vista Home Premium using a ACER laptop. I had the same BEX error message as seen below;

    > Problem Event Name: BEX
    > Application Name: msnmsgr.exe

    I had this problem for over a year or so, I tried fixing it in the beginning and gave up. I thought installing MSN 2011 would fix this but I still had the same BEX error and MSN would not run.

    After a month of using MSN 2011, I was able to fix this issue by accident by doing the following;

    I run MSCONFIG (Under Start use RUN and open MSCONFIG)
    Under the START-UP tab I stopped the following applications from starting up at boot-up (on start-up);
    * Adobe Acrobat
    * eDataSecurity (HiTRUST)
    * Delivery Manager (Kontiki Inc)
    * HP Digital Imaging
    * Install Shield Update service
    * Acer Launch Manager
    * Quick Time
    * updateMgr (manufacturer unknown)
    * WR_PopUp (Acer Inc)
    * Acer wAP Lauch Tool
    * Microsoft Office OneNote (Office 2007)

    I also stopped the following listed services (Seen under the SERVICES tab);
    * Google Update Service (gupdate)
    * HP Port Resolver
    * HP Status Server
    * Tablet PC Input Service

    When I stopped the above applications from starting up on my laptop, after rebooting I was able to run and successfully load MSN Messenger for the first time in ages. I cannot tell which listed application was preventing MSN Messenger from running on start-up on my Acer Vista laptop. I listed these applications in order for you to find the common denominator with your MSN Messenger start-up issue with your Vista Laptop.
