    Here are my pc's Stats:
Clean Install of Windows Media Center 2005
    - AMD Athlon 64 3200+
    - ASUS K8V SE Motherboard Bios 1005
    - 1 GB 400Mhz Corsair Select Matched pair memory
    - 300 GB 7200RPM Maxtor SATA HD
    - Pioneer DVD-120s Slot loading DVD Player
    - Plextor PX708-A DVD±R/RW with current firmware
    - AGP GeForce FX 5200 8X 256MB 400Mhz DDR
    - ASUS WiFi Home Wireless Card
    - Win-TV PVR2 USB 2.0

    The problem:
I got the latest drivers drom the support page of Hauppauge Installed them, along
with PowerDVD V6.0 Deluxe. (which is a decoder that is supported by MCE
along with windvd6, nVidia dvd decoder etc.) The drivers show that they are
working properly and the decoder is in prime working condition. When I enter
    media center,
however, it tells me that no valid tv tuner is installed or working properly,
and that I need to install one. I read the other posts, and it seems to me
that when people installed current drivers, and a supported dvd decoder
    software their tuner worked?

specifics on what i have tried to do with dirvers here:
I have tried about half of the drivers listed on for my
device, all give me the same message wether with Powerdvd's decoder as the
prefered, or any other, it doesn't seem to matter. I have tried the drivers
from Hauppauge that are WHQL signed for MCE as i stated above, still no luck.
Each time I try a new set of drivers, first I use the HWCLEAR program from
than restart, install the new drivers on new hardware detect from specified
location, and after sucesful install, I restart again and open media center.
When I click on settings and tv, the message is always the same. "The tuner
hardware is either malfunctioning or not installed. Please make sure... yadda
yadda yadda" I have been checking the device manager, and
there are no problems there. I REALLY cant figure this out.

I really hope this is thurough enough. If you have a good idea what is
wrong, email me at so I may respond tou you directly.

Have you tried a different PCI slot on the MB or are you putting the card
back in the same slot? If not try another slot. Did you have another type
of TV tuner card installed previously? I had a WinTV analog (Fusion 878
series) board installed and I removed it for the 500 dual tuner. I am still
working out issues with the FM tuner not appearing in the program list. The
WinTV had FM radio with it also so I think somehow the registry still sees
the old FM tuner. The Dual tuners work great otherwise. I am considering a
complete reformat and start from scratch. Luckily it is a new system and I
back up my data to another PC.

I'm not an 'expert expert' but have you run the 'setup' in
Media Center once you have loaded the tuner card? for my

  5. I've had the same problem. difficult to get device manager to recognize the
tuner as a tuner pvr instead of "unknown". then, when it does, rebooting will
relegate it to the bone yard again.
HP has replaced the tuner and then its power supply with no change. this is
after they made me reformat the system drive and reload...every single
    program I own...
