Net not connecting, apps not functional after connecting PC to HDT

Saturday night I moved my Dell XPS 700 running Windows XP Media Center into
my living room to connect it via a VGA cable to my new HDTV (a Vizio 32"
VO32LF). Immediately after starting up the computer, I got a blue screen
error-- unfortunately I don't remember what the screen said. I restarted,
and now it seems that the Internet will not connect despite the fact that I'm
using the same cable modem and router that I was using before moving the
computer, and I'm able to connect to the Internet on my laptop using the same
ethernet cable. Also the computer frequently locks up when trying to open
most applications-- Word, Internet Explorer, even the Control Panel. The
problem is sporadic, though; it was working fine this morning, then I shut it
down to move it back into my entertainment center, and when I started it up
again the problems had returned. Any advice on the cause or solution to
these problems would be greatly appreciated.
